Interview Tips

A successful interview is the result form a successful approach! Now that the client has requested an interview with you, understanding the importance of this "first impression" is the key to a successful job placement.

These tips will help you to grasp the appropriate approach to take when preparing for this interview.

Once all the key elements to the preparation are in place, rest assured that you will have the best chance of success!

CHRC believes that outside of a good resume, the interview is one of the most important steps in the hiring process. This is the time that a candidate becomes a "sales person". You are in affect selling yourself and CHRC to our clients. Here are some general tips to keep in mind:

Pre Interview

  • Be flexible with CHRC on scheduling the interview. Keep in mind the client and CHRC are very busy and that we need to fill the job immediately. It would be helpful to provide us with a few dates and times. We will be as accommodating as possible.
  • Ensure that CHRC has provided to you, and you have documented, all of the names and titles of the interviewers.
  • Be sure to provide us a good phone number or alternate where you can be reached.
  • CHRC will provide the address of the client's place of business. Using web features such as Google Maps to receive door-to-door directions is very helpful.
  • If a test is required by the client, i.e., mathematical or aptitude examination, make sure to practice basic math skills such as algebra, fractions to decimals, etc., prior to your interview appointment.
  • Ask any questions?of CHRC that you are not clear on.
  • Prior to the interview, research the client's website. Make sure that you are knowledgeable?of their products and/or services as well as have an interest in?working at the client's facility.

Interview Day

  • Be Calm
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Be about 10 minutes early
  • Bring extra copies of your resume for everyone that will interview you.
  • "Dress to Impress" -?Ensure that you present yourself appropriately to the client's business as well as the particular work environment.

During the Interview

  • Impress with your knowledge. Your resume has allowed this interview opportunity. However, you need to expand on your expertise. Show our client that you are the only one to hire.
  • Show how you fit within their organization. It's very possible that they may want to hire you directly at some point in the future, if this is also what you desire, of course.
  • Identify at least 3 relative strengths.
  • Identify at least 3 relative weaknesses. Remember everyone has deficiencies. Try to turn those into a positive.
  • When the interview closes, ask what the next steps are, and remind the client that you look forward to hearing from CHRC on the outcome of the interview.

After the Interview

  • Follow-up with CHRC to obtain client interview feedback and if an offer is pending. Also, indicate your level of interest in our client and your availability.

Other Interviewing Tips

  • Prepare for the interview with a friend or relative. It will ease you during the interview process.
  • Don't rush your answers. Take the time formulate your responses.
  • Remember that interviews are a 2-Way Conversation - ASK QUESTIONS. The interviewer(s) are not only interviewing you, the candidate is interviewing the client to see if it would be a good fit for them.
  • Always make eye contact. If your eyes?start wandering around, you are not portraying confidence.
  • Be Positive. Our clients do not want someone that has a negative attitude because it will affect?the work environment
  • Give "Real World Experiences". They want to see that you have been there.
  • Make sure that you don't share personal interests such as church groups, marital status, or any other personal matters that do not pertain to the job. Only work related items should be discussed.
