Leaburn O From the very start I couldn’t follow what was going on. I’d say it deserves a rewatch except it was so dull. Something about the pastel colours and grainy picture from films of this era that makes them drag. Watched on DVD. Rated 1/5 Stars •  Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Blu B A Noir Crime Classic. There isn't many American made Noirs I've seen from this decade but this is probably the best one. It's gritty, ice cold, very complicated, and done in that New Hollywood style. For a genre well known for snappy and very heavy on the dialouge side this is a very quiet film compared to other Noirs. The music is solid but I wish it was used a bit more and a bit more catchy. Everything else is really good here. It can feel a bit jumpy sometimes and faster paced than others with more action in it. That's a good and slightly bad thing because it feels like it can rush the complex plot elements and because it doesn't have that much dialouge in it and isn't as snappy as others it can be hard to follow at times. Lee Marvin is really cool in this though. Anyone who is a fan of any actors in this, the director, crime thrillers, or noirs (especially Neo-Noirs) should give this a try. A great thriller that has some hands down awesome imagery and sets. This is some good old great cinema. You could call it cheesy but I call it art. Now I guess i can see that there is a couple small things that don’t really make sense if you think about it little conveniences for the plot but other than that it’s a cozy 1960s thriller. The cast is superb, with Lee Marvin ruthless as Walker, a criminal with a code of honor, who wants his money no matter who gets hurt in the process. Behind the camera, director John Boorman crafts a gritty crime drama with no real good guys, as Walker is a criminal himself who only wants his promised share. He shows no scruples in getting it either, whether putting a man in the line of fire or convincing his sister-in-law to sleep with his enemy. It does get a little surrealist, as its hinted that Walker my actually be a ghost, but still a great watch that captures the mood of the Parker novels. Rated 4.5/5 Stars •  Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/09/24 Full Review Alec B Boorman seems uninterested in the actual revenge plot, giving the movie an eerie dreamlike quality where you're never quite sure if what is happening is real. Marvin was one of the few actors who could sell being an unstoppable force of nature, you never doubt him for a second. Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review jwcdood From the 60s/70s era, when it seems like a lot of screenwriters, directors and producers were trying to be "creatively modern", but had no idea what they were doing, POINT BLANK is certainly one that proves that point. There are only 4 actors who have any substance in its cast and their talents were squandered — Lee Marvin, Keenan Wynn, Lloyd Bochner and Carroll O'Connor. And, although not major, their characters appearing only briefly in the movie, Keenan Wynn's and Carroll O'Connor's performanced were the most realistically convincing, since they were certainly the most talented on the crew. Whatever, when it's all said and done, POINT BLANK unfortunately is one of those movies when you breath a thankful sigh of relief after the last scene. Que sera sera, c'est la vie...
