Critics Consensus

While 28 Weeks Later lacks the humanism that made 28 Days Later a classic, it's made up with fantastic atmosphere and punchy direction.

Rhys T Extremely action packed with gore and disaster with jump scares, fantastic addition. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/16/25 Full Review Troy R Despite the star studded cast I felt like this film was less interesting story wise. Acting was fine, but very niche role acting. Like of course Jeremy Renner is some bad ass sniper who is a jokester but also cares etc. Same goes for most of the main roles. Where the original had a lighter, artistic, and adventure like feel, this installment felt like a dark serious film, with extra emphasis on the darkness at times. Besides the first action scene and a much later scene which is an amazingly terrifying scenario, the movie is mostly devoid of scary moments or intense action. Though it tries to have other scenes where tension is held, unfortunately the characters never really feel like they are in danger. Maybe just because its like a lot of movies with kids, you know the kids aren't going to get hurt. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review Darren D "28 Weeks Later" rightfully doesn't try to be a copy & paste sequel by moving away from the story of human survival that featured strongly in its predecessor. The opening is the calm before the storm, watching survivors with no indication where the direction is going as they get ascended upon by a horde of the infected, panic sets in & the fight to live as the score from John Murphy ramps up, its ruthless. It's a bleak & meaner sequel, largely from the viewpoint of military intervention from the Americans on English soil. I forgot how stressful the containment breach in 28 Weeks Later was. It's the moment the intervention from the military knew everything was gone, with their last option being to shoot civilians & the infected to stop the virus from spreading. It's a worthy sequel. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/08/25 Full Review Garrett B Not as good as you remember it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/25 Full Review AnActor E With the franchise now in the hands of other cinema professionals, “28 Weeks Later” does an incredible job of replicating Danny Boyle’s directorial style, as well as Alex Garland’s Britain of horrors. Everything, including filming setbacks, such as the original’s shaky hand cam recordings and experimenting with color and quality, have been reproduced. This sequel now includes wonderful cinematography, heightened clarity and an improved color palette. The plot of the film is entirely believable, adding to viewer suspension of disbelief. The premise is truly exciting, able to keep viewer interest thru its unexpected and heartbreaking narrative. “28 Weeks Later” is an almost flawless production! Were it not for some small defects, such as an only better-than-average script, an extremely poor soundtrack (the instrumental metal music is completely out of place), and a rather abrupt and inconsequential ending (a new type of enemy could have been introduced here), this film would have only required a deeper moral message to be counted among the great horror classics of all time. Despite these trivial issues, “28 Weeks Later” is excellence in filmmaking, and a definite must see for any Horror afficionado! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/27/25 Full Review Lloyd S Terrible as the previous one. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/25 Full Review Read all reviews
