Jim Schembri jimschembri.com LaSardo, a veteran character actor often cast as the heavy, does well here as both director and lead...[His] portrayal of a hard man with a vulnerable, arguably naive side is believable, particularly in scenes where both aspects grind against each other. Rated: 3/5 Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed It’s decently written, directed, and acted from the lead cast. The film shows that LaSardo is on his way to becoming is a solid film writer and director after having been in over 175 films as an actor. Naomi R American Trash is a powerful, emotional film that explores themes of love, loss, and healing. Robert LaSardo shines as Milles, an Iraq war veteran struggling with PTSD whose life is transformed by his relationship with Melissa—a compassionate healer devoted to Mother Earth and a supporter of ATWA. The film delivers a poignant narrative that tackles personal tragedy and the complexities of justice, leaving some questions thoughtfully unanswered. LaSardo even chose the characters’ names with thoughtful intention—Milles, which echoes the Latin word Miles (meaning soldier), and Melissa, derived from the Greek word for honeybee. After seeing his interview, he explained that he also named the character Milles after Charles Manson’s middle name, adding another intriguing layer of meaning. The spiritual elements are also noteworthy. Mysterious appearances during Milles’s final days add a comforting dimension without revealing all the secrets of the narrative, and the concluding moments by the ocean provide a resonant sense of closure. Overall, I found American Trash moving, thought-provoking, and impactful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review Lee G This is such an enjoyable and gritty movie, with a compelling storyline full of emotion & intensity. Robert LaSardo does a fantastic job on his directorial debut and gives us a powerful insight into how PTSD can affect soldiers and a journey through love, loss, grief and the search for answers in an indifferent world. Robert LaSardo and a solid supporting cast including Costas Mandylor, Lorelei Linklater & the late Tom Sizemore give us brilliant performances, which they all should be proud of and the film is accompanied by a wonderful score from Anthony Espina. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend this film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/25 Full Review Aaron H This film hits on all cylinders and brings forth the emotion from the entire cast. The color grading and camera work is awesome!!! SPOILER ALERT: The scene where Robert LaSardo was in the police station, standing, talking to the officer was intense and I did not know which way that scene would go. His (Robert's) intensity was palpable and I didn't know if he was going to go at the officer or not. The end scene felt like the end of Shawshank Redemption and if it was an homage towards them, it was done perfectly. I give this film a 10 out of 10 for showing the raw emotion, the situations each actor was in, the vulnerability and showing the love for his girlfriend from Robert's character. THIS IS A MUST SEE!!! Bravo to American Trash! Aaron Hawkins Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/25 Full Review Alyssa G Absolutely fantastic thriller!! Would definitely recommend!!
