Get Hard Reviews
Occasionally offensive-but what R-rated comedy in the last ten years isn't?-but worse than that, it takes the easy way out and in the process wastes the opportunity to dig a bit deeper and make the class warfare comedy a bit richer.

The film exists in an alternate reality, where lots of guns are waved and no one gets shot, and where deadly situations pop up but result in barely a drop of spilt blood.

They're a pretty incredible comic duo even in a remarkably average film.

Get Hard features the type of jokes you'd expect from a title that's an innuendo itself. The outrageous laughs almost make the plot unimportant but ultimately fit the style Ferrell is known for.
| Original Score: 6.8/10 | Nov 13, 2019
Uninspired and unfunny, Get Hard is further evidence that Ferrell needs a career intervention.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 14, 2019
Instead of lampooning racial difference or satirising white collar crime, it opts for the easiest, most crowd pleasing humour, and hammers the screen with jokes that get old almost as soon as you hear them.

There are some chuckles to be had here, because with such gifted and reliable talent that's pretty much a given. But the vehicle that houses Hart and Ferrell is so scummy and poorly crafted it isn't worth anyone's time.

Ferrell and Hart prove to have really good chemistry... But for every positive moment the two generate, you get three or four moments that don't work.

I was offended by the film's laziness. It confuses being shocking and obnoxious with being edgy. Instead of finding the line and cleverly crossing it, it finds the line and takes a greasy, self-righteous dump on it.

So when you sit in this movie and can count on one hand the number of times you laugh, it's disappointing, especially when it's the same joke repeated over and over and over again.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Nov 2, 2018
For all the yammering about Get Hard being too racist or too homophobic, much of the chatter that has been lost is that it just isn't funny.

So let the racist stereotyping and gay-panic high jinks begin!
| Original Score: 0/5 | May 11, 2018
Get Hard tries to highlight the reality that there are two very different sides to Los Angeles. The problem is that it does so in the most cartoonish way possible.

Will Ferrell randomly yelling baked potato with a shiv stuck in his forehead is gold
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 2, 2017
It's awash in jokes reeking of racism and homophobia, and while I'm sure that the films creators would argue that they're simply trying to air out these differences, they utterly lack the finesse to walk that line.

The weird thing, though, is that Get Hard isn't mean-spirited. It's just bad comedy falling short of its mark in the worst possible way.

It's offensive to minorities, it's offensive to gay people, and it's offensive to the lead actor's resumes.
| Original Score: F | Aug 16, 2017
Hart and Ferrell make this movie raunchy, silly, hysterical and fun.

Obvious, lazy, tone-deaf, and mean-spirited - and that, friends, is hard to laugh at.

A deformed composite of every buddy comedy ever made, sliced and diced to the point of total anonymity. The characters aren't buddies and the premise isn't comedic.
