Alonso Duralde TheWrap The film tries to meld politically charged personal drama with the action-movie tropes you'd expect in a story set in the Middle East. (Chase through a crowded marketplace? Brawl at the hamam? Check!) Feb 22, 2013 Full Review Farran Smith Nehme New York Post The plot unfolds at a nice clip, but at no point does director Ruba Nadda evade expectations. Jerod S Tomei really isn't in this movie - and it's similar to the Taken series but without any of the suspense. It's paced and shot all wrong. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Abby A YET ANOTHER MOVIE WHERE I WOULD ADVISE PEOPLE TO NOT TAKE THE LOW critics' RATINGS SERIOUSLY Adib (the fabulous, charming Alexander siddig) is a Syrian falsely accused of being a traitor and exiled. Decades later, after starting a family and new life in Canada his daughter goes missing after going on a trip and her sister tells him she went off to Syria to research about him! Without telling anyone. Already giving off "spoiled brat " vibes. Adib finds himself needing to go back to his home in Syria where he has lots of enemies and has to confront the awkwardness of asking for help from his first wife Fatima he left behind (played by Marisa tomei.) Subdued stoic first half.. Intense, immersive 2nd half with a bit of action and some violence. Enjoyable throughout personally and everything gets wrapped up well at the end. By that I mean no head scratching, No plot holes.. Also appreciate that there wasn't too much politicspeak and jargon because there's people like myself who don't know the last thing about Syrian culture or Syrian internal affairs.. I've really enjoyed with Alexander in it.. From Rubba Nada she's really good in my opinion. I liked Cairo Time too. I'm a Long term fan of Dr Bashir of DS9!
