Victoria Luxford BBC.com Made with only a fraction of your average Star Wars or Marvel movie, but does so much with (relatively little). Sam Rockwell is just fantastic given that he’s largely in the film on his own. A tremendous sci-fi movie. Slow, but there are so many details deserving attention, the chance to take them all in one only enhances the experience. Rated: 4/5 Aug 14, 2010 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Rockwell gives a matchless performance that demonstrates anger, depression, humor, sadness, frustration, desperation, and even mild insanity. Being in almost every frame, he captures the audience completely Rated: 4/4 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Wael Khairy The Cinephile Fix the film is rich with philosophical ideas grandeur in scope...it presents them in a tightly focused and efficiently structured psychological thriller Jul 5, 2023 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand Essentially a one-man, two character piece, 'Moon' could be an old 'Twilight Zone' episode nurtured into a feature. Evert M Not good as a whole. Set design is good, Sam Rockwell is good, story idea is fine. Just dull and not interesting in execution with almost no logic in anything. Unless you're a completist and just have to watch every Sam Rockwell movie, skip it. Normally I would give this two or three stars, but I felt I needed to go lower just to pointlessly try and offset all of the ridiculous 5-star ratings. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/12/25 Full Review Chris H This is a clever film and Sam Rockwell is great. There are too many holes in it to get that extra star and I don't think I'll want to watch it over and over again, but good stuff nonetheless. Don't watch it late at night when you're half asleep - you would be in real danger of losing track of who was who. I think that's intentional though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review Jamie K Didn't really know much about this film going in, all i knew was, it's a film with Sam Rockwell on the Moon which I was sold on immediately, however I came out the other end having watched a surprisingly sad and heartwarming story. Sam Rockwell gives what might be one of my favourite performances from his great catalogue of characters and i would encourage anyone interested in the film to go in with little knowledge on the films plot. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Joshua H This was a really engaging little drama, very simple but effective and everything they tried worked. Yeah it's good. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/25 Full Review D. Hunter P It was... okay. Without spoilers, the movie is mostly a solo acting performance by Sam Rockwell. I think the starting premise works well enough to establish the setting and themes. Sam's character... Sam is working solo on an He3 harvesting station on the moon. The only companionship he has is a non-humanoid robot that is part of the base and some occasional videos from his wife and daughter that are back on Earth. Problems ensue and then accidents and then a twist! From that moment forward, to me, the tension fell mostly flat. The acting was fine and the conclusion was not the standard cookie cutter hollywood ending. So there is that at least. The set on the base had some good character and the moon surface shots were very nice to look at in a doing a lot with a little sense. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Kyle C Its concept is better than its execution. Somewhere between 2001 and The Martian with, interestingly enough, a little bit of Mickey 17, but without the depth or care of any of these films. It begs a lot of questions that feel suspiciously close to plot holes. And most of the twists can be seen from miles away. That said, it has some gorgeous sets and props and Sam Rockwell does a fine job as the lead. It’s just held back by poor forethought and some wonky special effects.
