Critics Consensus

Mortal Engines has no shortage of eye-catching special effects, but lacks enough high-octane narrative fuel to give this futuristic fantasy sufficient cinematic combustion.

Hex x Really cool movie, unfortunately not like the books though. A lot of the character development is left behind in favor of the visuals. It's super exciting to see as a movie though, if you already know the characters from the book. For a big example, Anna Fang and her group, you don't even learn the NAMES of her friends until mid-battle in the movie. Anyone who only watched the movie misses a lot of the impact of certain scenes and certain events. But the visuals are stunning (minus Shrike). Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/25 Full Review Frans B Rivers did good here. Never mind the book, this is a movie. It's meant to be visually stunning, and it is. Cinematography is great, all actors do very well in cast, story leaves a little to the imagination, as it should. Great action and enough twists. Just nice to watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review
