The Omega Man Reviews
The second screen adaptation of Richard Matheson’s haunting novel ‘I Am Legend’ stars Heston as the last man on Earth (or so he believes) after a plague turns the populace into night-dwelling albino vampires.

Filmmaker Boris Sagal, working from a script by John William and Joyce H. Corrington, delivers an erratically-paced yet generally entertaining sci-fi endeavor that benefits from Heston's commanding, ingratiating performance...

The film s a pretty terrible direct translation of what is one of the easiest-to-adapt-to-screen books I've ever read. But it doesn't want to be the novel. It has something else on its mind.

Unsatisfying sci-fi thriller, though it's not Charlton Heston's fault

In adapting Richard Matheson's novel I Am Legend, the film loses the original's quiet paranoia and rethink of the vampire theme, but it has quite a lot of gritty flair.

Despite not having aged particularly well, the opening sections of this sci-fi allegory remain potent, although the rest of its apocalyptic storyline is decidedly leaden.

...not an awful film, just a remarkably dull one.
| Original Score: 4/10 | Dec 22, 2007
A breezy film about the death of mankind in a way that only the '70s could have provided.

Not bad, but far from a classic.

An extremely literate science-fiction drama.

Another misfired adaptation of Richard Matheson's fine science fiction novel I Am Legend.

Averagely competent exercise in comic strip sci-fi.

Despite being baked in early '70s cheese, The Omega Man is easily the most entertaining film version of Richard Matheson's sci-fi novel, I Am Legend

Ainda eficaz, mais de 30 anos depois de seu lanamento.

Lacks the power and cleverness of the Matheson book, but worth viewing just for Heston's sake.

Peppered with some sharp, even amusing dialogue, the story temporarily shelves the heavy allegory and slips into good, slam-bang suspense. But it doesn't last.

Lights on! Not bad sci-fi with Heston in hiding.
