In a small English village, Chick (Lee Patterson), an American soldier, deserts to be with his girlfriend, Jill (Diane Cilento), and drifts about aimlessly trying to find a way to make money while avoiding being arrested. Swept up with gunrunners who recruit him to join their gang, Chick reluctantly participates in the crime for the pay. Soon, however, Jill's former boyfriend returns and, angered by Chick's involvement with Jill, plans to ruin the American any way that he can.
