Raymond & Ray Reviews

Feb 17, 2025

There is a gorgeous tale within the film about brotherhood, the love between them in the face of adversity, the loyalty between the two and the frictions as each tries to reconcile themselves to their father in their own ways. Otherwise it’s a dull story of a bad father who the writing goes very easy on. Luckily, there’s an assortment of supporting characters who help Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor work through their baggage, often with a patience and care that defies explanation.

Funny, crazy and interesting.

Me sorprendió esta película, esperaba un dramon denso y aburrido, y es más que eso, tiene su comedia negra interesante y el desarrollo de la historia es algo loco pero que no se siente distante y te permite conectar con los protagonistas en su duelo.

Life can be messy and so can funerals. Great performances by all, I felt. Dark comedy, surprises, happy and unhappy endings. When I saw the reviews I was floored, as if I'd seen a different movie. I rarely watch movies twice, but will this one and with a friend. It was refreshingly gritty. A little biting. Bravo!

How crazy can a family be? Let's count the ways. This film is an honest if over the top study of how dire actions can affect one well into adulthood. Teach your children well. Especially if you hadn't been. Maybe the most revelatory scene that depicted that notion is Raymond's breakdown at the funeral. Which, in the same vein as but not quite as out from nowhere as when Vince shot Marvin in Pulp Fiction, was as terrifying as it was entertaining to watch. The tragic honesty of that scene was that it probably hit a little too close to home in regards to how people genuinely feel about an estranged parent(s).

I enjoyed it. Was good. I am a fan of the in medias res flair. Solid film production, real good actors. Worth watching.

I liked Raymond & Ray. It's a road trip film. Both physically and metaphorically as the two main characters discover things about their estranged father from others at his small and bizarre funeral. Worth two hours of my time.

Apple 온라인카지노추천 has been dropping so many very good movies the past couple of years and this is no different. Raymond & Ray is an emotional story filled with great story telling, acting and some comedy. Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor had so much chemistry together on screen. The dialogue was written so well that it turned what would've been a pretty generic story into something I was very intrigued in. Overall, this is a very solid movie and I enjoyed it a lot.

It had potential, even some moments too but that's about it.

A decent little heartfelt movie. Ethan Hawke was great and having fun. The story was tight and the characters convincing.

Despite featuring 2 talented performers and containing a fair share of funny and touching moments, there's a pervading sense of repetition and redundancy that hangs over Raymond & Ray. 2 brothers reunite to attend their father's funeral. It's a simple premise, and one that a fair few films have dealt with. The problem here is that nothing really new is brought to the table, and it seems like the filmmakers realise this. Long stretches of the film are dedicated to nothing. Not character development, plot progress or establishing atmosphere, just empty space. Some scenes drag on and on because clearly there wasn't enough material to fill out the runtime. I liked the chemistry between Hawke and McGregor, the latter never sounding fully comfortable with his American accent, and I liked how they did learn about themselves and each other along the way. But these things aside, R & R doesn't do enough to justify a ticket price, but since it's mostly found an audience on streaming services, I suppose we can't get too wound up about it.

A movie for when you're not looking for a great movie to watch, but fine if you're tired at the end of the day and just want to relax. A lot of the other reviews say that the performances the leads are good but although I really like Ewan McGregor I thought it was a pretty disappointing effort. But I don't regret watching the film.

TWO BROTHERS. ONE FINAL REQUEST. Raymond & Ray is a 2022 comedy-drama film written and directed by Rodrigo García ⚰️ It's ok, but I feel mixed about this one 😉 I'd recommend it if you like this genre, but if not then probably give it a miss 👍🏼👎🏼 While there are a few good moments, this movie just didn't have enough substance fo it's slow pace… Half brothers Raymond and Ray reunite when their estranged father dies—and discover that his final wish was for them to dig his grave. Together, they process who they've become as men, both because of their father and in spite of him.

IN A NUTSHELL: The film was written and directed by Rodrigo Garcia. It was nominated for "Best Film" at the Rome Film Fest this year. THINGS I LIKED: I've always been a fan of Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke. They have great chemistry together and are true pros, giving outstanding performances filled with nuances. Ethan Hawke's daughter is now in the movie business. Check out her recent performance in Do Revenge. She looks just like her dad and her mom, Uma Thurman. The supporting cast members also do a great job. The story forces us to take an honest look at our own lives, our family relationships, and the legacy we'll leave. The quirky humor is often very amusing in a subtle way. THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: There are moments that feel extremely forced. Some of the characters make odd choices. The dialogue missed a few crucial moments, in my opinion. TIPS FOR PARENTS: Kids will be extremely bored. Profanity, including F-bombs There's a lot of talk of a man who was a womanizer. A man flips the bird We see a photo of a nude woman from the back with a side shot Talk of drugs We see the backside of a man THEMES: Dysfunctional families Brotherhood Grief Forgiveness The power of music Death Legacy Infidelity Marriage You can see the full review on the Movie Review Mom YouTube channel.
