No spoilers ahead as I review. The film follows a poisonous tree frog named Ribbit that leaves his friends to go on an adventure to find somewhere that he can fit in. He finds out that he may be a prince that turned into a frog, so he looks to find a princess to kiss to turn into a human. His friend Sandy joins in on this mission as they meet new friends and foes. They see humans capturing a bunch of poisonous tree frogs and decide to go save them. Ribbit and Sandy save the frogs, and the princess. Ribbit kisses the princess but is still a frog, so he decides to happily be with Sandy. The movie was great, plot was interesting, a few scary scenes here and there and overall a good movie for kids, or people of any age. Rated 3/5 Stars •  Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member No kissing. Don't be gross. Ribbit is a frog in the Amazon jungle that doesn't particularly enjoy hopping or water. His best friend is a flying squirrel and the two of them set out on a journey to uncover why Ribbit is so unique. One day he is hypnotized by a bat and comes to believe he is a prince trapped in a frog and just needs to kiss a human. Is this fortune true or is Ribbit just unique for his species? "I finally found my purpose." "Your purpose is to kiss a human?" Chuck Powers, director of 24 episodes of Initial D: Fourth Stage, delivers Ribbit in his first major motion picture. The storyline for this picture is just okay, but the animation is beautiful and very well done. The movie comes together well . The voices are surprisingly well selected and include Sean Astin, Tim Curry, Chuck Powers, Russell Peters, Cherami Leigh, and Valentine Cawley. "I'm a flying frog?" "What? No. Something but different." I came across this film recently on Netflix and decided to add it to the queue for my daughter and I to watch together. We actually sat and watched it as a family and was mesmerized by the animation style (it's really underrated). Overall, this is a pretty average movie that steals ideas from SpongeBob, Rio, and Madagascar, but is still worth a viewing. "That's what I call some serious splash!" Grade: C Rated 2.5/5 Stars •  Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member My daughter purchased this movie on DVD when we were visiting family in the US. I had never heard of it, as it had never made an appearance here in England. Now I have to wonder if it was released straight to DVD even in America because it hasn't had many reviews or sparked much attention on the internet. I can easily see why Ribbit failed to create much of a hubbub. I am struggling to recall any scenes that made an impression. It seemed to pass me by in a some technicolor blur of frog-legs and flying squirrels. I can remember chuckling at Deepak, the Indian-voiced bat. I also remember being very irritated that the main character, Ribbit, was portrayed with teeth. This was most confusing to my kids, who are both quite aware that frogs have no teeth in reality. The synopsis is simply that Ribbit wants to find others of his kind. He doesn't believe that he is meant to be in the rain forest, and so he sets off with his friend/love interest, Sandy the Flying Squirrel, to find himself. It's as weird as it sounds. I have, however, seen much worse. I wasn't surprised to find that Tim Curry was involved, but I'm a bit surprised at Sean Astin. Perhaps he's just really fond of frogs (with teeth).
