Terrifier Reviews

Terrifier looks and feels like a student film and I mean that in the kindest way. This is a reminder of what horror should be - simple and brutal.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Oct 31, 2024

Leone’s passion and craftsmanship come together to make an effectively eerie, occasionally shocking, and surprisingly funny splatter film that set the table for the unlikely franchise that we have today.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Oct 10, 2024

Repulsive, shocking, and disturbingly funny, even a little nihilistic in its single-minded ambitions. Terrifier doesn’t give the viewer much to chew on, but even the most desensitized horror fanatic will watch in horrible awe at what Leone has created

| Original Score: 3/4 | Oct 3, 2024

As a pure, gross, down ‘n dirty experience in abject cruelty that keeps its tongue firmly buried in cheek, Terrifier is successful.

Simply, Terrifier, ends up being more fatiguing than scary. [Full review in Spanish]

Once you figure out there's not going to be anything to it aside from being a bloody calling card, you kind of just sigh and wait for it to be over.

| Original Score: C | Jan 12, 2023

Making the aesthetic of '90s VHS genre movies its own, Terrifier makes conciseness and stylized sensationalism its fundamental pillars. [Full review in Spanish]

I'd guess the grotesque kills came to Leone first since the flimsy narrative that lets them unfold in sequence is treated as little more than an afterthought.

| Original Score: 4/10 | Dec 30, 2022

Terrifier admittedly (and eventually) progresses into a repetitive third act that ensures the whole thing peters out to a fairly palpable degree...

| Original Score: 2/4 | Oct 25, 2022

Unpredictable and unapologetically violent, Terrifier may seem like a B-horror, but it is far from it.

Terrifier is more or less a slasher proof of concept. It introduces its two best features, Art the Clown and the practical gore effects, and executes them very well. Unfortunately, the movie lacks a story or any characters to invest in. I needed more.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Sep 25, 2022

Despite a phenomenal performance by David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown, 'Terrifier' is a vapid and mean-spirited piece of torture porn with nothing to say.

| Jan 28, 2021

An attempt to pay homage to slasher movies of the 1980s, this horror pic has a truly unsettling killer and some entertaining elements, but it ultimately goes too far with its cruelty toward women.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 6, 2020

The killer is played with aplomb and does bring some chills throughout the film.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Apr 14, 2020

On a technical level, the movie is top-notch. The scenes look as though they're lit by natural light, a few bulbs here and there.

| Oct 24, 2019

While this schlocky, low-budget gore-fest is mostly joyless and often ugly in its brutality, it's not altogether artless.

| Jul 16, 2019

Even as a goofy one and done slasher film, it needs a lot of work in the story department, as well as a better villain...

There's a sense of the theatrical, both in his body language and the gruesome killings.

| Oct 31, 2018

He made me nervous because I never knew what he was going to do next, and that's what you want in a killer.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Oct 30, 2018

Part of me feels like this movie crossed too many lines, another part wants you to watch simply to experience one of the best clown villains ever with Art.
