The Hustle Reviews
It’s not even bad enough to get needlessly angry over. It just exists; a stasis that’s probably more demeaning than if the film had been purely horrendous.

..a decent time-passer…the humour is girlish, silly, and without the whiff of misogyny that makes the previous versions feel rather unpalatable today…

Whatever you want to call Chris Addison’s The Hustle — a remake, a reimagining, a lazy retread — either way, his film is unoriginal, uninspired, and unworthy of your time.

Just as there is little more tedious in film than a comedy that is not funny, there is also little more tiresome than a crime caper that is predictable.

[A] disappointment.

The film is merely a copy, but its updates make it feel very of the moment, and there are plenty of laughs along the way.

The Hustle wants to tell the obvious jokes, and it's not nearly as satisfying as it should be.

The most disappointing component of the film is the blandness of the cons.

The fact that the story goes nowhere is no fault of the leads, but of the writers. There's nothing there but repetitive predictability. Skip this one.
| Original Score: 1.5/4.0 | Nov 20, 2020
This remake fails to give an old con new life, delivering a re-heated product that has lost much of its comedic turns and tricks.

All of the elegance of a giraffe on roller skates and all of the laughter of an evening talking intergalactic taxation with George Lucas.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Aug 16, 2020
The Hustle feels laboriously long at 90 minutes, flubbing even the dumbest beats. Which is nuts, given DGA and Primetime Emmy-winning director Chris Addison has serious comedy smarts.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 16, 2020
The Hustle certainly has its moments, but its hobbled by a specific miscalculation in its casting, which still makes me sad to report.

Two actors I really love fall prey to Hollywood's 'make a movie with an overused tired formula' machine. Sadly, a non-delivering train wreck without much humor.
| Original Score: 2.5/10 | Jul 13, 2020
The Hustle sells a big game but doesn't deliver, just like the title suggests.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 7, 2020
The Hustle is amusing, even, at times, laugh-out-loud funny, which thoroughly surprised me. What didn't surprise me was the fact that, try as it might, the movie never rose to the hilarious levels of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

The Hustle bungles a great opportunity to punch up and clobber patriarchal fundaments.

At a time when bigger is automatically assumed to mean better at the cinema, these con artists hope that going small is the path to a big payoff.

Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson are clearly trying but completely flounder with a terrible screenplay that meanders from set piece to set piece...
| Original Score: 2/10 | Jan 17, 2020
The Hustle is a good idea, and could work as a classic 80s comedy reworking, but this was kinda sad.
