Thunderbolt and Lightfoot Reviews
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot remains a major achievement for Eastwood, Bridges, and Cimino. It deserves to be more than a cult curiosity.

…a great tough-guy movie that drips with learned experience and hard-earned pathos…
| Original Score: 5/5 | Apr 23, 2023
This light-hearted yet poignant buddy movie is very much in the style of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)...

It’s the directorial debut of Michael Cimino, who also wrote the script, and his directs the film as a mix of character piece and lighthearted crime story with dark shadows around the edges.

Thunderbolt sorely lacks the kind of movie-movie star-power that might have made it memorable despite its excesses of vulgarity and glibness.
| Oct 8, 2021
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is a shambly and amiable caper dramedy that launched Michael Cimino's directorial career and served up Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges as a couple of outlaws moseying toward a possible big score.

...a criminals-on-the-road movie that shifts toward a dazzlingly elaborate and painfully realistic heist tale.
| Apr 14, 2020
A great buddy heist movie that gets pulled down by some angry interlopers.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Jan 27, 2020
Director-writer Michael Cimino seems a master of offhand humor and bizarre characterization.
| Dec 13, 2019
Oscar-nominated Bridges is terrific, with his funny, freewheeling turn effectively loosening up Eastwood and allowing the superstar to appear more relaxed and less tight-lipped than usual.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Nov 17, 2019
'Thunderbolt and Lightfoot' has the ingredients of a high-dollar buddy comedy, but it also steers toward quieter, more mature territory that ultimately gives it greater cinematic electricity.
| Original Score: 5/5 | Nov 17, 2019
Thunderbolt & Lightfoot is an action film, but it's one where explosions, car chases, and violence seem almost beside the point.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jun 5, 2019
Both Kennedy and Lewis turn in colorful performances, but it's Eastwood and Bridges' film, and their ill-defined, tender friendship makes the movie.
| Original Score: 4/5 | May 11, 2015
Eastwood e Bridges estabelecem uma boa dinmica, mas este ltimo, com uma composio jovial e inconseqente, quem d alma a um filme menor, mas ainda assim divertido.

Debuting director Michael Cimino obtains superior performances from Clint Eastwood, George Kennedy, Geoffrey Lewis and especially Jeff Bridges.
| May 6, 2008
Eastwood is in good, if not great form, Bridges steals the whole show, and Cimino displays a sense of unpretentious fun and appealing grasp of character that should have held him in good stead for a lengthy career. It didn't.
| Original Score: 3/5 | May 6, 2008
A multifaceted caper film told in fine detail with richly developed characters.
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | May 6, 2008
Cimino is so into making his images glow that he forgets to make the film move.
| Original Score: B- | Apr 9, 2007
The likeable result, made for and with the personnel of Eastwood's Malpaso Company, looks like a throwaway Eastwood vehicle.

A fun classic, the likes of which they don't make anymore
