What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it doesn't quite live up to its title, Fun and Fancy Free has its moments, and it's a rare opportunity to see Mickey, Donald, and Goofy together.

TIME Magazine The whole picture peters out and becomes as oddly off-balance and inconsequential as its title. Nicholas B Fun and Fancy Free is a decent three-star animated film that has its moments but didn’t fully win me over. While the classic Disney charm is present, the storytelling felt a bit uneven. The mix of two shorter segments—Bongo and Mickey and the Beanstalk—offers enjoyable animation and fun characters, but the overall film doesn’t stand out as much as other Disney classics for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/25/25 Full Review Kevin P It’s fairly entertaining, but kind of boring overall. The Bongo story was decent, but brought down by the weirdass “Sing it with a Slap” musical number (aka easily the worst Disney song I can think of). The opening sequence with Jiminy Cricket is decent, even if one of the newspaper lines he tries to brush off unintentionally foreshadows climate change. The Mickey & the Beanstalk storyline was cute with special shoutout to newcomer Willie the Giant, but gets undermined by this creepyass “birthday party” of a little girl who’s only invitees are a grown man and his two ventriloquist puppets. Overall, it’s a mixed bag of a movie and easily one of the lowest members of the Disney Animated Canon totem pole. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review
