Jim Paulsen (Marshall Thompson) is a single American pilot who enjoys a peaceful life residing in mountainous Switzerland. Unfortunately, his laid-back lifestyle is thrown into chaos when he inherits a massive St. Bernard dog named George from his responsibility-shirking sister, who is getting remarried and isn't willing to keep the large canine. While George is initially an unwelcome addition to Jim's home, he eventually comes to appreciate the gentle furry giant.
