The beautiful and wealthy Karla Zachanassian (Ingrid Bergman) has an affair with local guy Serge Miller (Anthony Quinn). However, when she becomes pregnant and he denies being the father of her child, Karla is shamed into leaving town. Years later, she returns and offers a large amount of money to the citizens of the small hamlet on the condition that Serge is killed. As the residents struggle with the troubling offer, they weigh the moral issues against considerable financial gain.

Blobbo X Good adventure story, for young orphans especially. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/24 Full Review Audience Member This movie makes you have all sorts of different feelings for different characters at different times throughout this funny little movie and you are never sure which way it is going to go. Ingrid is superb and Anthony as usual doesn't disappoint. I liked this movie enough to watch it a second time and appreciated it all the more the second time as I knew what was going on. You need to watch it to know what I mean. I good story, not sure why its not more well known. It is about Carla Zachanassian who returns to her village as a multi-millionaire for a visit. Ingrid Bergman and Anthony Quinn give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places.
