Audience Member Scant reviews I found all mention how crazy this film is. And while the main character is clearly fashioned after Jesus and like to dress up as a woman on any occasion he gets, this film is far from serious craziness that was going on in HK films of that time. Story line is based on Chinese literary classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms, however the plot doesn't work at all, at least if you're not already familiar with the story. Drama, fantasy, political intrigue and comedy in an unsavory mix. Rated 2/5 Stars •  Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A monk returns from the grave with supernatural powers to fight the wicked and corrupt men who killed him. Directed by the great Cheh Chang, I was a little disappointed with the film which turned out to be more of a Chinese ghost story than a martial arts film. There are certainly fight sequences and they are solid, but nowhere as good as Chang's heyday with the Venom Mob. I think the fight scenes suffered by the inclusion of too many supernatural elements (flying, transforming, disappearing, etc.), and combined with low quality special effects, really weakened the film. If you're wanting a supernatural martial arts film, stick with films by producer Tsui Hark who took western quality of special effects and mixed them with eastern martial arts to a much better effect than what you get here.
