Stutee Ghosh

Tomatometer-approved critic
Biography:

I have been reviewing films for almost a decade now and in every mode of medium possible - from radio to television, print and digital medium. I started as a radio presenter where my audio film reviews became very popular. Currently I'm an accredited film critic with The Quint where my reviews appear both in text and as videos. The video reviews have a dedicated fan following and are hugely popular for their humor, candid analysis and low tolerance for trashy misogynistic films. Along side this my audio reviews are broadcast on Fever 104fm where I host the Morning drive show. I'm based in New Delhi, India.

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz (2017) 31% “It is such a poor version of that amoral universe conjured up by Anurag Kashyap that you’re left hungry and disappointed by the end of this bland buffet.” – The Quint Oct 23, 2023 Full Review Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022) 45% 3/5 “It's adorned with all good stuff that will put you in a forgiving mood. Music, visual pleasure and a brilliant act by Anil Kapoor.” – The Quint Feb 10, 2023 Full Review Chup (2022) 40% 2.5/5 “For this critic Chup remains an interesting, intriguing idea that couldn’t quite execute what it ambitiously set out to achieve .” – The Quint Jan 2, 2023 Full Review Samrat Prithviraj (2022) 18% 1.5/5 “The battle scenes are so laboriously choreographed and the CGI-generated animals appear so convincingly unreal that Samrat Prithviraj ends up being rather below average. A tedious watch.” – The Quint Oct 17, 2022 Full Review Liger - Saala Crossbreed (2022) 0% “A colossal disappointment.” – The Quint Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Raksha Bandhan (2022) 18% “The film wants to cater to the lowest common denominator by regurgitating stale old lines and jokes, and still fails to elicit a laugh.” – The Quint Aug 11, 2022 Full Review Shabaash Mithu (2022) 0% 2.5/5 “This sudden shift in the narrative tone is both inexplicable and unforgivable and Shabaash Mithu is poorer for it. It’s a pity because Mithali’s inspiring story and Taapsee’s solid performance deserved better.” – The Quint Jul 18, 2022 Full Review Hit: The First Case (2022) 50% 1.5/5 “Hit misses the mark by making a mockery of the mystery it promised to unravel.” – The Quint Jul 18, 2022 Full Review Khuda Haafiz: Chapter 2 - Agni Pariksha (2022) 17% 2/5 “After a quiet start, the film serves up brutal violence with a side dish of social commentary. If only the writing was less sloppy ” – The Hindu Jul 9, 2022 Full Review Dasvi (2022) 8% “A film can be anything it wants to be, but Dasvi makes the cardinal mistake of being... boring! Innumerable yawn-inducing, unfunny moments together conspire to make it a tiresome watch.” – The Quint Apr 12, 2022 Full Review Jalsa (2022) 76% 3/5 “Jalsa is a story of inner-conflict, motherhood, and class, portrayed brilliantly by its two lead protagonists.” – The Quint Mar 22, 2022 Full Review Jhund (2022) 81% 4/5 “Earthy and unpretentious it has the unforced, unhurried reality of a documentary and the emotional power of great drama. Expect a story soaked in realism with a lack of concessions to mainstream contrivances.” – The Quint Mar 5, 2022 Full Review Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021) 82% 3.5/5 “Vaani gives her character an authentic depth of emotions.” – The Quint Mar 1, 2022 Full Review Badhaai Do (2022) 94% 3/5 “As for the lead, Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao are solid performers and play their parts with the flair of consummate actors...” – The Quint Feb 16, 2022 Full Review Looop Lapeta (2022) 78% 3.5/5 “To truly enjoy Looop Lapeta I’d suggest you surrender to the eclectic energy and vibe that the film throbs with...” – The Quint Feb 8, 2022 Full Review 83 (2021) 80% 4/5 “The 1983 victory was like no other, particularly because of how impossible it seemed at the time. 83 is a competently made ode to the game of cricket and the team that made all Indians feel like champions.” – The Quint Dec 29, 2021 Full Review Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021) 17% “After subjecting oneself to the banality of a completely uncalled for sequel, this exercise of then writing about it is even more tiresome. Fatigue has already set in.” – The Quint Dec 6, 2021 Full Review Antim: The Final Truth (2021) 21% 2/5 “Antim: The Final Truth is less of a film that wants to tell a story and more a business proposal to hoist Aayush Sharma as an action hero.” – The Quint Dec 6, 2021 Full Review Dhamaka (2021) 38% 3/5 “Ram Madhvani knows when and how to dial up the tension, give us just enough information so we know what's happening and are hungrier for more.” – The Quint Nov 20, 2021 Full Review Bhavai (2021) 2.5/5 “It somehow makes its point, but it's so diluted that precious little can be done about it.” – The Quint Nov 10, 2021 Full Review Meenakshi Sundareshwar (2021) 40% 1.5/5 “The most frustrating thing about Meenakshi Sundareshwar is that we keep waiting for something to happen and nothing ever does.” – The Quint Nov 5, 2021 Full Review Sardar Udham (2021) 95% 4.5/5 “Sircar exercises remarkable restraint in making this powerful film with lofty ambitions. Sardar Udham is heartbreakingly sincere with Vicky Kaushal delivering a devastatingly touching performance.” – The Quint Oct 19, 2021 Full Review Rashmi Rocket (2021) 44% “Overall, with its runtime of two hours, Rashmi Rocket does a fine job of keeping us hooked till the finish line. Watch it and you won't regret it.” – The Quint Oct 19, 2021 Full Review Paka (River of Blood) (2021) 100% 4.5/5 “Borrowing from the tales that his grandmother recited to him as a child, sound designer turned filmmaker Lukose doesn't treat violence as a spectacle to revel in...” – The Quint Sep 20, 2021 Full Review Dug Dug (2021) 89% 4/5 “An audacious new voice, this debut feature casts a critical look at how superstition and blind faith provide a fertile breeding ground for religious cults and idolatry to grow unchecked.” – The Quint Sep 20, 2021 Full Review
