Gerry Mulligan
A leading figure in the jazz world, saxophonist Gerry Mulligan was also an accomplished film composer and soundtrack contributor in Hollywood. Among the more notable films his music appeared in, prior to his death from liver cancer in 1996, were "Husbands and Wives" (1992) and "L.A. Confidential" (1997), as well as 1996's "I'm Not Rappaport," in which he composed the film's score. In addition to his music, Mulligan also appeared in a few on-screen film movie roles, like "The Subterraneans" and "The Rat Race," both of which were released in 1960. His name may not be well known to those outside the close-knit jazz community, but to those that heard and loved his music, Gerry Mulligan was one of the most important jazz musicians of the post-World War II era.
