Hugh Montgomery BBC.com The Narrow Road to the Deep North feels like a searingly "true" account of war, indeed, but also one founded on the finest artistry, if that's not too much of a contradiction. Rated: 5/5 Apr 24, 2025 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) A lush, character-driven Australian drama that is not only beautifully performed and stunningly shot but also intellectually and emotionally vigorous. Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Louise Rugendyke Sydney Morning Herald The Narrow Road to the Deep North, set mainly in the harrowing confines of a POW camp on the Death Railway in Burma, is perhaps the most beautiful and harrowing of those I have seen, with a tender performance from Jacob Elordi at its centre. Rated: 4/5 Apr 19, 2025 Full Review Jack Walters Loud and Clear Reviews "Justin Kurzel’s upcoming miniseries The Narrow Road To The Deep North is a sharp, illicit drama that’s much more concerned with its characters than painting an immersive portrait of war." Rated: 4/5 Apr 24, 2025 Full Review Amelia Harvey Movies We Texted About The Narrow Road to the Deep North is a tough watch and not one you will likely want to binge. But it’s necessary in its cruelness, never holding back the terrors of war and the scars those involved will always bear. Apr 23, 2025 Full Review Jason Di Rosso The Screen Show (ABC Radio Australia) The performances from Hinds and Elordi do talk across the decades to each other – channelling the determination, despair and lust for life that is central to this complex story Apr 23, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

joanna d Beautifully filmed but brutal. The main problem is it's too long. An inordinate, tedious amount of time is spent on the love story. A two hour film would have produced a tighter story. In other words, it's a slog that makes you want to give up. Important to mention: 90% of the people who died building the Burma Death Railway were Asian. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/24/25 Full Review Brent O This is the most affecting piece of art I've encountered in a while - meditative, beautiful, brutal and tragic. The cinematography is breathtaking, and the story is so singular it makes you wonder how anyone could create it without having lived through it. Absolutely stunning, will not soon forget. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Karin N Far too long, surprising that a smart director like Kurzel decided to stretch this story. It would have been a taut, visceral 2.45 hour film. (I've read the book.) The main issue was the slow pace of the central love story - it did not need that much time, WE GET IT. On to the good, performances were solid. Hinds as the older version of the main character was fascinating in his portrayal of PTSD. Elordi was solid but maybe a little more low-key than was realistic? The POW scenes and the actors involved were excellent, but be prepared he holds nothing back in portraying the savagery. I came away with a deep appreciation of what these young men went through. So bravo for that. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review B D Great stuff. Acting, story, cinematography. All of it great. Could been 1 less episode, but at least they didn't try to stretch it 8 or 10 eps. Near perfect wknd viewing experience. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Steven G The best series I have streamed in years. Pulls at every heart string. Executed flawlessly.
