Marie Antoinette Reviews
Critiques consensus on point. Can't believe this light-hearted movie received $60 million. The Guillotine should be used on studio heads and producers. I understand it probably assisted 100s of children indirectly from the business of making this film. The $60 million could have been used to assist 1000s of less fortunate children with $60 thousand each. Sorry cast and crew; I like all of you from a fans point of view.
A great movie about Marie Antoinette. It was nice to see France and practice my French. The architecture and costumes were neat. There is a scene of her marriage.
The soundtrack and colors infuse life into the period drama and maybe left the character development a little....undeveloped. Judy Davis needed more.
Very underrated. History from the perspective of a child bride.
🍅 6.2/10 I’m surprised with the amount of 10/10s on letterbox. I mean u do u. It’s alright it’s whatever. Made me want sugar.
I really liked how the actors got into their roles so well. I think that people watching the movie and other people really liked the fact that he is so naturally and elegantly immersed in his role.
Rumor. Scandal. Sex. Fame. Revolution. Marie Antoinette is a 2006 historical drama film written and directed by Sofia Coppola 🇫🇷 It’s good 🙂 Worth a watch. I’d recommend it if you like this genre 👍🏼 A lavish and sumptuous production which moves along at a slow yet mesmerising pace… The retelling of France’s iconic but ill-fated queen, Marie Antoinette. From her betrothal and marriage to Louis XVI at 15 to her reign as queen at 19 and ultimately the fall of Versailles.
This historical drama retelling written and directed by Sofia Coppola is based on the life of Queen Marie Antoinette in the years leading to the French Revolution, from her betrothal and marriage to Louis XVI to the end of her reign as queen, and ultimately the fall of Versailles. Even though the term 'anachronistic' may perfectly describe the entire concept of the film, from the modern dialogues to the punk-rock soundtrack that is a little disruptive, but has the specific purpose to attract younger audiences, this film is definitely not acknowledged for its plot and character development. The costumes, however, are the jewels of the crown, truly worthy of Milena Canonero's Academy Award, given how delightful, colorful, numerous and stunning they are. Kirsten Dunst is captivating and exquisite, probably because of how Coppola directed her. But the story prefers style over substance, which is sad. It could have been better, if it had been more accurate and more engaging.
An absolute masterpiece. Sofia Coppola built an entire cosmos, the external world is an expression of the interior of the character and viceversa. Marie Antoinette is not a historical figure, she is an epiphany of the rococó, the excess, the separation between the reality of France and her royal experience. She's not just the Austrian princess, or the princess of France or the Queen, she is a teenage, half of a person created in a artificial space where the beauty and the opulence where the depression and loneliness grows like a pattern of flowers on the wallpaper. Marie Antoinette is another object in the palace where Luis XIV started the ostracism of the royals. The directions is impecable, the originals fused with the classic aesthetic of painters like Fragonard or Antoine Watteau. The details of modernism create a direct relationship between the spectator and the characters. A lot more to say, but too little space.
Although it's accurate some main events of Queen's life, movie misses a great opportunity to be character study and becomes just another period movie that is pretty to look at. Not that Sofia Coppola is exactly strong on character focus I still wish script was a diligent as Costume and make up design along with Art direction.
Production design, good. Acting, ok. Story... plain, simple and shallow. In general? A little boring
This is, above all, an image over substance movie. Don't expect a typical period film, because this movie is the tale of a doomed queen in beautiful pastel color shots and a couple phrases. Its two hours are too much and its dialogue too little, but it doesn't affect the film's capacity to create compassion for a girl that has it all and doesn't know how to restrain herself, even when it's needed. Boring at times, but always stunning.
Just when I thought I couldn't care less about the story of the french revolution, this hot mess comes along. A masterclass in creating a 'film' without any discernable attempt at acting by anyone this is, at least, a daring experiment.
