[It] eludes censorship to tell a story that, though intimate in scope, depicts his rage at the official order on a grand scale.

There's little insight to be found in Ying's presentation of even seemingly helpful citizens as fundamentally cruel and animalistic.

Simply brilliant film-making for less than $5000. For anybody the least bit curious about China today and who has a taste for sophisticated comedy, this is not to be missed.

a small quiet movie that is about a 17 yr old boy from the country who goes to the big city 2 find his father who left the family 6 years b4, the ending was a little confusing but it provides a look at the dichotmy in china of rural life vs. city life.

With Bringing Father Home being such a great movie you forget that it's an amateur film. The boy left the village a kid but came back as a man who wasn't in his right mind & the journey forever changed him

Very good movie about China's poor villagers but with a twist at the end. Very promising director. As tough it's been film in video (in clandestinity), the quality of execution would have fit perfectly with 35 mm.
