In Algeria, Zouina (Fejria Deliba) bids a tearful goodbye to her mother as she embarks on a voyage to France to be reunited with her husband. In a provincial town, she attempts to rear her three children under the withering glare of her mother-in-law, Aicha (Rabia Mokeddem), who insists on a strict Muslim upbringing. Zouina does her best to assimilate, but is stuck between her traditionalist relatives and her xenophobic neighbors. She lives for Sundays, when she has a few hours of freedom.

Audience Member A great movie that shows the difficulties a wife facing after moving from Algeria to France. The transformation of the woman into a strong female is inspiring. Fantastique!!! Yet another movie tackles the fish-out-of-water, immigrant-culture clash genre, this time in 1974 France as families of Algerian workers are allowed to reunite with their husbands/sons in France. We see four different women who have different worries that consume their lives while French society is experiencing social change. It's a film to watch, to wonder about, and to enjoy more for its details, subtleties and charms than for its overall plot and message.
