I don't doubt Carolla's respect for the material -- he himself is a racer, and owns and drives several of Newman's cars. But he's stretching a few interesting anecdotes out to feature length, and you can feel the strain on the material.

This topic is right in Carolla's wheel house, pun intended. If you're interested in car racing at all this is must-see. But even if you are not, it is presented in a manner that will pull you in.

First saw P L Newman race at Summit Point Raceway VA in a Datsun 510 (Nissan) in 1973. It is almost unanimous that he could have made a living as a Pro-driver if he did not have that pesky film career. He liked racing because blue eyes and Oscars do not win national championships. Director Adam Carolla got it right.

This is much more of the story of Paul Newman the man, than Paul Newman the race car driver. We learn he led two full and amazing lives, one as an actor, one as a professional driver, but always managed to be a decent human being. His charities and other acts of kindness left this world much better than he found it. The doc itself is a tightly woven story with great historic footage of his races, clips from his films, a lot of behind the scenes, candid moments, and interviews of many of the people he was closest too. Very enjoyable even if you don't care on bit about race cars...
