The Accountant 2 (2025) 78% 3/5 “It's rare to see an action movie these days where the action isn't the whole point, but that means the main plot ends up feeling a little beside the point. It's the buddy comedy stuff that works here” – It's Better in the Dark Apr 24, 2025 Full Review Sinners (2025) 98% “We're so used to mainstream American genre film being asexual that the easy way this has with sex comes across as more transgressive and startling than any horde of bloodsuckers that used to be people.” – It's Better in the Dark Apr 18, 2025 Full Review Warfare (2025) 93% “The story here is the conflict in miniature: a group of Americans invade a family home for reasons that seem arbitrary, trash the place, get into a massive battle with heavily casualties and loss of equipment, then withdraw having achieved nothing” – It's Better in the Dark Apr 15, 2025 Full Review Drop (2025) 84% “Centered on an excellent performance from Fahey, who has to get a lot of the drama across while playing a character trying not to let anything show, Drop is 2025's best worst first date.” – It's Better in the Dark Apr 10, 2025 Full Review The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie (2024) 88% “For a relatively low budget effort this looks great; there's plenty of life and movement in every scene. It may not be right up there with the classics, but what is?” – It's Better in the Dark Mar 28, 2025 Full Review A Working Man (2025) 49% “Statham's big strength as an actor is his sense of humor; the more a film tries to make him into a bland generic thug pummeling bad guys, the less impressive the result” – It's Better in the Dark Mar 27, 2025 Full Review The Alto Knights (2025) 40% 3/5 “The result is a story that (probably rightly) assumes we know all the gangster cliches and tropes so well there's no real need to tie things together when we all know what we really came to see: a double dose of De Niro in mobster mode” – It's Better in the Dark Mar 19, 2025 Full Review Black Bag (2025) 96% “Soderbergh's many, many skills as a director are perfectly suited to a spy thriller, and this provides all of the expected thrills with just enough of a fresh spin to make the whole thing worthwhile.” – It's Better in the Dark Mar 12, 2025 Full Review Spit (2025) 3/5 “Wenham is clearly having a lot of fun and his performance as the new kinder, gentler Spit is often surprisingly warm and heartfelt. Sanding off his rough edges does come with some drawbacks though, and a mellower Spit is a less obviously amusing Spit” – ScreenHub Mar 11, 2025 Full Review Mickey 17 (2025) 77% “It's following in the tradition of any number of frantic, over-the-top science fiction tales, and Writer-director Bong Joon-ho is not taking any of this seriously” – It's Better in the Dark Mar 5, 2025 Full Review Bird (2024) 86% “It's a swirling film, full of joy and grinding poverty, despair and the beauty of nature pushing through ruins” – It's Better in the Dark Feb 21, 2025 Full Review Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (2025) 88% “Having Jones back looking for love is just enough of a spine to keep this from being a pointless greatest hits tour; having the grim specter of death lingering over a number of the scenes is just enough weight to keep this from drifting away.” – It's Better in the Dark Feb 12, 2025 Full Review Presence (2024) 88% “With big scares off the table, what's left is an interesting up-close look at a family under stress, with a low-key mystery wrapped around it.” – It's Better in the Dark Feb 5, 2025 Full Review Companion (2025) 93% “Writer / director Drew Hancock has come up with a solid noir thriller that's also a smart science fiction story with a touch of horror mixed in. It's a tight, exciting ninety minutes, but what really lifts it over the top are the (excellent) performances.” – It's Better in the Dark Jan 29, 2025 Full Review The Brutalist (2024) 93% “Art and capitalism turn out to be entwined, but so is everything else. You can make your mark, but need someone else to explain it to the world. Hopefully they'll be sympathetic to your vision.” – It's Better in the Dark Jan 27, 2025 Full Review We Live in Time (2024) 79% 3/5 “With Pugh and Garfield, We Live in Time has a main cast whose performances overwhelm the average material they're given” – It's Better in the Dark Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Wolf Man (2025) 50% 3.5/5 “The big innovation here is to drag out the transformation - this is more a story about infection than it is about traditional werewolf tropes like the thrill of unleashing the beast or the shock of waking up from a violent bender” – It's Better in the Dark Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Conclave (2024) 93% “It's serious but light on its feet, a good time for an audience that doesn't need everything explained to them but likes everything to be wrapped up tidily. In the current cinematic climate, it's a blessing.” – It's Better in the Dark Jan 9, 2025 Full Review Nosferatu (2024) 84% “There's a performative atmosphere to much of this, a knowing sense that we're watching a familiar story being told yet again. That sense of ritual gives this version of Nosferatu its strength; at its best this feels like watching an unholy summoning” – It's Better in the Dark Dec 28, 2024 Full Review Better Man (2024) 88% 3.5/5 “The result - flashy, brash, cheeky at times but rarely surprising - feels like it captures something authentic about Williams. He's a solid entertainer (as he puts it himself) who delivers the goods” – It's Better in the Dark Dec 27, 2024 Full Review Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) 56% 3/5 “It's not really a problem that the title character is the most boring character in the film, though it does give the story the air of political propaganda: Mufasa was the best at everything, which is why he was the best choice for king” – It's Better in the Dark Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Heretic (2024) 91% “Heretic is at its strongest when the threat is simply that someone as charming and likable and fun to listen to as Hugh Grant is using those powers for an evil you can't quite figure out” – It's Better in the Dark Nov 27, 2024 Full Review Wicked (2024) 87% “Despite its flaws, the story's heart - the central relationship between the two future witches - is a strong one. When they're together, Wicked sings.” – It's Better in the Dark Nov 20, 2024 Full Review Audrey  (2024) 81% 3/5 “Audrey's comedy might be blunt at best, but it gets better as it goes along and the characters begin to shine. ” – ScreenHub Nov 15, 2024 Full Review Gladiator II (2024) 70% 3/5 “In an era of remakes and reboots, Gladiator II is a good old-fashioned sequel. Which is to say, it's a step down from the first film while still having enough going on to make it watchable” – It's Better in the Dark Nov 13, 2024 Full Review
