Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture Such depth makes Sister Midnight that much more fascinating and, ultimately, that much more heartbreaking. May 19, 2025 Full Review Peyton Robinson RogerEbert.com There are laughs aplenty, even as “Sister Midnight” begins to lose creative steam, with the wheels falling off, and the further it falls into the repetitive macabre. Rated: 3/4 May 16, 2025 Full Review Natalia Winkelman New York Times In his first feature, Kandhari makes use of morbid humor and expressive imagery, including stop-motion effects. May 15, 2025 Full Review Erik Childress Movie Madness Podcast The film jumps through genres but never settles on a place that asks us to define it. Instead it offers Raptika Apke an absolute showcase to comically show her disgust for her situation and those around it which is all we need to follow her anywhere. Rated: 3/4 May 20, 2025 Full Review Christopher Llewellyn Reed Hammer to Nail Sister Midnight may be an uneven trip, yet the cinematic potholes are very much a factor in the movie’s charm. May 19, 2025 Full Review Ria Dhull Spectrum Culture Sister Midnight is a Hindu film, and while the vignettes may get repetitive, the references to Kali’s story and her position—as a goddess representing feminine power and a triumph over marriage, masculinity and life itself—pull the story together. Kevin M Um, what? What a mess. Sure the first hour sets up a normal movie of some sense, but the transition and everything that’s suddenly thrown in to try to be something else just makes it all nonsense. The only saving grace was that my local movie theater offered a mystery viewing of this thing for free. I guess that’s the only way they thought they could get an audience. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/08/25 Full Review Penny M Funny, weird, surprising, beautifully shot. Radhika Apte gives a great performance and you'll have fun spotting a few film references too. Maybe not for everyone but I enjoyed this immensely. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/29/25 Full Review Paul P Absolute incoherent nonsense. Definitely can’t recommend.
