The Snowtown Murders (2011) 85% 5 “It's almost impossible to describe how distressing, intense and finely crafted this undeniably controversial drama is. Proceed with caution.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Jul 4, 2011 Full Review Get Low (2009) 84% 4 “Highly unusual drama - with black comedy elements - which allows Duvall to showcase his refined skills.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Jul 4, 2011 Full Review Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) 35% 4 “Cinemas, quake in fear! Michael Bay has conceived yet another screen-smashing spectacle which sets the bar even higher for what blockbuster action can provide. Ignore all the annoying cliches and stupid bits - and just get some big-budget exhiliration.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Jul 4, 2011 Full Review The Tree of Life (2011) 85% 2 “Apart from a middle section which reveals moments of clarity and actual emotion, this is a bloated, self-indulgent bore of fine imagery.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Jul 4, 2011 Full Review The Conspirator (2010) 56% 3/5 “A solid historical drama that carries a few too many political messages.” – Empire Magazine Jun 27, 2011 Full Review Certified Copy (2010) 89% 3 “A film about people discussing people, which attempts to do something different? Believe it - or not.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Mar 25, 2011 Full Review The Company Men (2010) 67% 4 “Takes an unpopular group - upper management! - and humanises their involvement in screwing the world. Quite the achievement, really.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Mar 25, 2011 Full Review Blue Valentine (2010) 87% 4/5 “Not first-date material, this sombre portrait of failed dreams is buoyed by excellent leads and a yearning heart.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Dec 27, 2010 Full Review The King's Speech (2010) 94% 5/5 “With the calendar almost closed, the best mature drama of 2010 arrives. Firth and Rush are majestic, as is Hooper's handling of touching history.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Dec 22, 2010 Full Review GasLand (2010) 98% 5 “Virtually guarenteed to make your blood boil, debut documentariab Fox's remarkably likeable investigation pours forth a persuasive call-to-arms.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Dec 6, 2010 Full Review Fair Game (2010) 78% 4 “Watts and Penn work their magic, as Liman avoids Bush bashing, to present well argued and personable "intel".” – Empire Magazine Australasia Dec 5, 2010 Full Review Devil (2010) 51% 3 “Entertaining, spirited mystery which mercifully avoids the grisly path, but loses its way in simplified sermons.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Dec 5, 2010 Full Review The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) 49% 3 “A spirited and visually resplendent fantasy adventure that is let down by it's youthful cast.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Dec 5, 2010 Full Review The City of Your Final Destination (2007) 39% 2 “Looks like a Merchant Ivory movie. Bores like a lesser one, too.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Oct 15, 2010 Full Review Sagan (2008) 0% 2 “Glum, grey portrait of an unhappy life.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Oct 4, 2010 Full Review Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010) 54% 3 “The time is right for the return of Gordon Gekko, but making him a sidekick in a convoluted revenge plot, loaded with GFC history and allusions, stifles his totemic comeback. A fantastic way to go out.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Jun 26, 2010 Full Review Rocket Science (2007) 84% 4/5 “Well worth the wait, Rocket Science is a winning coming of age comedy with a difference.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Jun 16, 2010 Full Review Get Him to the Greek (2010) 72% 2/5 “It must try all manner of bizarre/obscene/silly things to sustain itself beyond stating the obvious about celebrity excess.” – Sunday Times (Australia) Jun 14, 2010 Full Review Shrek Forever After (2010) 58% 3/5 “All in all, it's not the spectacular send-off Shrek deserves but, as a way to get out, it's not too shabby either.” – Sunday Times (Australia) Jun 14, 2010 Full Review The A-Team (2010) 48% 5/5 “If you have a problem and no one else can help, you must see The A-Team. Action excellence guaranteed.” – Empire Magazine Australasia Jun 9, 2010 Full Review Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010) 37% 2/5 “Prince of Persia largely avoids action blasts and trudges through dull episodes. Not exactly a princely start to an aspiring franchise.” – Sunday Times (Australia) May 25, 2010 Full Review
