Can't Look Away: The Case Against Social Media (2025) “Can't Look Away is filled with convincing, well-documented instances of both teenage tragedy and companies prioritizing profit over well-being.” – Common Sense Media Apr 8, 2025 Full Review Captain America: Brave New World (2025) 48% 3/5 “A mix of earnest speeches and fairly intense action sequences, Sam Wilson's first stand-alone Captain America adventure is a solid, if not spectacular, entry in the MCU canon.” – Common Sense Media Feb 12, 2025 Full Review The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (2024) 48% 3/5 “As serious and battle heavy as its live-action predecessors, this high-fantasy prequel to director Peter Jackson's epic LOTR films isn't quite as emotionally engaging as it is visually ambitious. ” – Common Sense Media Dec 30, 2024 Full Review Wicked (2024) 87% “With its eye-popping sets, gorgeous costumes, soaring songs, and spot-on characterizations, this dazzling musical adaptation will delight the musical's legions of fans. ” – Common Sense Media Nov 19, 2024 Full Review All Happy Families (2023) 86% “Rose makes you genuinely care about this family and what happens to them, despite their dysfunction — or maybe because of it.” – AWFJ.org Oct 10, 2024 Full Review Late Bloomers (2023) 82% “"A thoughtful take on what it really means to grow up."” – AWFJ.org Jun 20, 2024 Full Review Inside Out 2 (2024) 91% 4/5 “This thoughtful, emotional (literally!) return to the world of Riley and her colorful, expressive emotions is a worthy follow-up to the original. ” – Common Sense Media Jun 12, 2024 Full Review Mountain (2017) 88% “It isn't all stunts and derring do; much of the film is simply gorgeous, sweeping, magnificent footage of mountains from all over the globe.” – AWFJ.org Mar 5, 2024 Full Review Miranda's Victim (2023) 82% “Abigail Breslin turns in a powerful performance as a woman who faces victim-blaming at virtually every turn but finds the inner strength to stand up for herself and others like her.” – AWFJ.org Oct 19, 2023 Full Review The Thief Collector (2022) 91% “The Alters’ story takes some unexpectedly dark turns, but overall The Thief Collector is breezy and fun.” – AWFJ.org May 17, 2023 Full Review Hidden Letters (2022) 91% “AWFJ's MOVIE OF THE WEEK! A secret language shared among Chinese women that empowered centuries of covert sisterhood, is at the heart of this thought-provoking, insightful documentary. Now that it’s no longer secret, can it retain its purpose and power? ” – AWFJ.org Dec 7, 2022 Full Review Social Animals (2018) 64% “Social Animals isn't the first indie comedy to explore the restless ennui of late-twentysomething/early-thirtysomething life, and it likely won't be the last. But it's always refreshing to get a femme-centric take on the subject...” – AWFJ.org Oct 14, 2022 Full Review Bitterbrush (2021) 88% “"It conveys emotions that are as big as the Idaho sky while maintaining a tight focus on the two young women and their relationship with each other."” – AWFJ.org Jul 13, 2022 Full Review Fanny: The Right to Rock (2021) 100% “It’s impossible to watch the original band line-up play together for the first time in 40+ years without a smile on your face. The legacy they left for subsequent generations of female rockers and musicians of color is undeniable” – AWFJ.org May 19, 2022 Full Review Inbetween Girl (2021) 88% “This isn’t a teen movie with a fairy-tale ending, but it is one with relatable characters and a story that feels authentic, and no one needs a fairy godmother to know how magical that can be.” – AWFJ.org May 12, 2022 Full Review Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliché (2021) 98% “ A moving tribute to a mother from a daughter whos still grieving her tremendous loss.” – AWFJ.org Feb 3, 2022 Full Review Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America (2021) 98% “Although many Americans, most of them White, are quick to exclaim "but that's not who we are!" when they hear about the kinds of things Robinson talks about, his point is that, yes, that is exactly Who We Are.” – AWFJ.org Jan 15, 2022 Full Review Love & Basketball (2000) 85% 3/4 “While full of great jump shots and on-court action, this "love story in four quarters" is first and foremost a romance.” – DVDJournal.com Jan 15, 2022 Full Review Bring It On (2000) 65% 3/4 “Dunst was born to play Torrance, a perky, sunshiny girl who's basically cheerleading incarnate.” – DVDJournal.com Jan 15, 2022 Full Review 9 to 5 (1980) 69% 4/4 “9 to 5's strong cast ... and appealing concept (who hasn't wanted to chain up the boss at one point or another?), make it almost as relevant today as it was when it hit theaters in 1980.” – DVDJournal.com Jan 15, 2022 Full Review Groundhog Day (1993) 94% 3.5/4 “Groundhog Day is more than simply a great comedy - it's a modern metaphor for the path to enlightenment.” – DVDJournal.com Jan 15, 2022 Full Review Zoolander (2001) 64% 3/4 “While Zoolander the movie - like Zoolander the model - is a little light on brains, it definitely has its moments.” – DVDJournal.com Jan 15, 2022 Full Review Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) 66% 2.5/4 “In many ways, Joe was ahead of its time.” – DVDJournal.com Jan 15, 2022 Full Review The Brothers (2001) 64% 2.5/4 “Like its four heroes, The Brothers looks good, knows just what to say, and mostly means well - but still has its faults.” – DVDJournal.com Jan 15, 2022 Full Review Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) 28% 2/4 “Without the deeper political, historical, and emotional contexts of the best-selling Louis de Bernieres novel the movie is based on, director John Madden's film ultimately doesn't carry enough weight.” – DVDJournal.com Jan 15, 2022 Full Review
