Thunderbolts* (2025) 88% 8/10 “In a franchise increasingly defined by diminishing returns and fan service fatigue, Thunderbolts* offers a rare moment of self-reflection, and a detour that feels meaningful in a way that most MCU films haven’t felt in years.” – The Lamplight Review May 2, 2025 Full Review Yadang: The Snitch (2025) 91% 7/10 “When Yadang is working — which is most of the time — it’s because the film seems less concerned with moralizing and more interested in spectacle and personality, and Kang Ha-neul is the film’s biggest asset in that regard.” – The Lamplight Review May 1, 2025 Full Review Havoc (2025) 67% 6/10 “Havoc doesn’t quite cohere as a story, but as a vehicle for pure, unrelenting action, it mostly succeeds. Those who appreciate the rhythm of well-executed violence, and don’t mind the excess that comes along with it, will find more than enough to satisfy.” – The Lamplight Review Apr 25, 2025 Full Review Drop (2025) 84% 7/10 “A tight, slightly ridiculous, occasionally stressful movie about a woman trying to survive the worst first date of her life, Drop knows exactly how far to push its premise before the whole thing breaks apart. ” – The Lamplight Review Apr 10, 2025 Full Review Queen of the Ring (2024) 72% 7/10 “Queen of the Ring succeeds in making Mildred Burke feel like the icon she was... She’s not just fighting for the future of women’s wrestling, she’s fighting for herself, her son, and the career she refuses to let anyone take away from her. ” – The Lamplight Review Mar 6, 2025 Full Review Blue Moon (2025) 96% 8/10 “Hawke, ever a master of his craft, captures Hart’s sharp humor and bruised ego in equal measure, turning him into both the life of the party and its saddest spectacle... even the character’s most acidic moments feel deeply human.” – The Lamplight Review Feb 18, 2025 Full Review No Beast. So Fierce. (2025) 5/10 “With a striking visual style and a commanding lead performance from Kenda Hmeidan, the film is undeniably ambitious. But much like its lead character, too much ambition turns out to be its eventual downfall.” – The Lamplight Review Feb 17, 2025 Full Review The Light (2025) 8% 4/10 “There are some striking visuals, and occasional glimpses of a sharper, more effective film buried within, but The Light‘s overindulgent running time and meandering execution will likely have audiences reaching for the switch.” – The Lamplight Review Feb 16, 2025 Full Review Mickey 17 (2025) 77% 9/10 “Mickey 17 is about the small, stubborn act of asserting one’s own worth. It’s a story about survival, not just physically, but philosophically; it's not just about staying alive, but about refusing to be erased.” – The Lamplight Review Feb 15, 2025 Full Review Captain America: Brave New World (2025) 47% 5/10 “Not a disaster, but also far from the bold, defining chapter that Sam Wilson deserves. Mackie does his best with what he’s given, but the script’s insistence on serving the greater MCU prevents the story from reaching its full potential. ” – The Lamplight Review Feb 13, 2025 Full Review Wolf Man (2025) 49% 4/10 “Wolf Man’s biggest misstep is its inability to balance its weighty themes with the inherent ridiculousness of the werewolf genre. Perhaps it's time for Universal to give this franchise the Old Yeller treatment.” – The Lamplight Review Jan 24, 2025 Full Review Grand Theft Hamlet (2024) 93% 7/10 “The film leans heavily into the absurdity of its premise: watching a player-controlled Danish prince deliver his “to be or not to be” soliloquy while an in-game cop car smashes into the scene is a unique kind of hilarity. ” – The Lamplight Review Jan 17, 2025 Full Review The Prosecutor (2024) 93% 7/10 “The Prosecutor does a commendable job of bridging the gap between hard-hitting action and thoughtful (if sometimes overwrought) drama, reaffirming Yen as a force to be reckoned with, both in front of and behind the camera.” – The Lamplight Review Jan 14, 2025 Full Review Harbin (2024) 88% 7/10 “With a healthy combination of action, atmosphere, and heart, and a thrilling climax that might feel a bit heavy-handed were it not based on historical record, Harbin succeeds as a gripping thriller that sheds light on a pivotal moment in Korea’s history.” – The Lamplight Review Jan 7, 2025 Full Review Moana 2 (2024) 61% 5/10 “There’s enough here to entertain younger viewers, but Moana 2 feels adrift at sea, with only fleeting glimpses of the magic that made the first film so beloved.” – The Lamplight Review Nov 27, 2024 Full Review Gladiator II (2024) 70% 7/10 “For fans of the original, the nostalgic callbacks and epic set pieces may be enough to satisfy, even if this sequel rarely achieves the soul-stirring impact of its predecessor. ” – The Lamplight Review Nov 21, 2024 Full Review Venom: The Last Dance (2024) 40% 5/10 “There’s enough of the Eddie/Venom dynamic to keep fans engaged, but the movie’s insistence on prioritizing plot-heavy exposition and unnecessary subplots holds it back from being the chaotic, joyful mess it could have been.” – The Lamplight Review Oct 24, 2024 Full Review The Apprentice (2024) 83% 8/10 “An engaging ride for fans of powerhouse performances that offers a disturbing (and yes, entertaining) exploration of how a man, driven by insecurity and guided by a ruthless mentor, came to reshape not only his own image but an entire political landscape.” – The Lamplight Review Oct 18, 2024 Full Review Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024) 67% 5/10 “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F may be an improvement over its predecessor, but it pales in comparison to the original film. Unless you have a particular affinity for these characters, you’re better off skipping this trip to Beverly Hills.” – The Lamplight Review Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) 80% 7/10 “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes may not reach the operatic highs of its forebearers, but it's a satisfying addition that continues the franchise's history of offering genuine thrills while also asking weighty, complicated questions.” – The Lamplight Review May 13, 2024 Full Review The Fall Guy (2024) 82% 8/10 “A genuine delight, balancing the earnestness of a romantic comedy with major setpieces that action lovers will appreciate, and knowing precisely when to dial up the cheese or give a sly wink to the audience. ” – The Lamplight Review May 2, 2024 Full Review Another End (2024) 29% 5/10 “There are big ideas here, about the human cost of progress and the delicate balance between cherishing the past and confronting the inevitable realities of life and death, but the film’s muddled and murky execution falls short of making a lasting impact.” – The Lamplight Review Feb 26, 2024 Full Review Spaceman (2024) 50% 6/10 “Surprisingly, it's Dano's performance as Hanuš that proves to be the most engaging... if ever there was an occasion that I needed to accept psychotherapy from a spider the size of a large dog, I'd probably want it to have Dano's voice.” – The Lamplight Review Feb 26, 2024 Full Review Small Things Like These (2024) 94% 8/10 “There are no easy answers here, and no tidy resolution; instead, it leaves the audience grappling with unresolved questions about individual responsibility, societal pressures, and the long-lasting wounds inflicted by systemic abuse.” – The Lamplight Review Feb 18, 2024 Full Review Love Me (2024) 46% 7/10 “Husband-and-wife filmmakers Sam and Andy Zuchero have created a bittersweet and affecting examination of what it means to be alive, and to be in love, and how we all need to feel connection. ” – The Lamplight Review Jan 23, 2024 Full Review
