The Ruse (2024) 10% 2.5/5 “What could have been a tidy little horror/thriller struggles for air with a surplus of exposition and explanation. Usually the best way to scare is to withhold.” – The Film Yap May 14, 2025 Full Review The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) 91% 3/5 “This identity-switcheroo adventure mixes romance and swashbuckling, but probably should've had David Niven in the lead role instead of as the side piece.” – The Film Yap May 12, 2025 Full Review Fight or Flight (2024) 77% 4.5/5 “Dizzying and kooky, this 'Die Hard on a plane' knockoff nonetheless features whizbang action, puckish charm via Josh Hartnett and a let's-just-have-fun comedic spirit.” – The Film Yap May 8, 2025 Full Review Another Simple Favor (2025) 62% 2.5/5 “Anna Kendrick has screen charm to spare, and Blake Lively wears the hell out of a shirtless suit. But the convolutions of the plot are too much in this sequel with plenty of style and little spark.” – The Film Yap May 8, 2025 Full Review Juliet & Romeo (2025) 24% 3.5/5 “A pop music version of the Bard's most famous play may not be the film you were pining for. But despite variations from Shakespeare's text, it's a bright, breezy rendition teens might actually enjoy.” – The Film Yap May 7, 2025 Full Review Thunderbolts* (2025) 88% 3.5/5 “It ain't reviving the MCU from its doldrums all on its. But this offbeat take on the superhero genre at least points a viable direction for a new iteration, one where castoffs and antiheroes rule.” – The Film Yap May 2, 2025 Full Review Bonjour Tristesse (2024) 65% 3.5/5 “A lovely, lyrical film about a young girl spending a languid summer in the south of France, until an old family friend shows up and comes between her and her father.” – The Film Yap Apr 30, 2025 Full Review The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933) 95% 4/5 “The (a)historical biography made Charles Laughton a star and cemented the popular image of the British monarch as a fat, brutish oaf.” – The Film Yap Apr 28, 2025 Full Review The Accountant 2 (2025) 76% 1.5/5 “For the sequel starring Ben Affleck as an assassin on the spectrum, the filmmakers went the buffet route of 'let's put in a little bit of everything,' leaving the ledger with a dearth of assets.” – The Film Yap Apr 23, 2025 Full Review The Legend of Ochi (2025) 77% 4/5 “Even if its themes are familiar, this magical fable about the unlikely friendship between a girl and a goblin mixes the fantastical with hyperreal concepts about xenophobia.” – The Film Yap Apr 19, 2025 Full Review Sinners (2025) 97% 3.5/5 “A bit of a confused mishmash of racial drama, ode to the blues, rekindling of old romances and a gory vampire slasher. But it vibrates with its own strange energy.” – The Film Yap Apr 18, 2025 Full Review The Wedding Banquet (2025) 88% 2.5/5 “Two Seattle gay couples cook up a plan to cross-marry partners for immigration and familial purposes, resulting in a joyless, sitcom-y remake.” – The Film Yap Apr 17, 2025 Full Review The Ugly Stepsister (2025) 95% 4/5 “Body horror meets fairy tale in this kinky, darkly comedic take on the Cinderella myth where the villainess becomes the downtrodden, disparaged one.” – The Film Yap Apr 16, 2025 Full Review 300 (2007) 61% 4.5/5 “Nearly two decades on, Zack Snyder's deeply silly historical epic/geek fever dream is easy to mock, but it's now deeply embedded in our popular culture and filmmaking aesthetic.” – The Film Yap Apr 14, 2025 Full Review Warfare (2025) 93% 4/5 “An extraordinary depiction of an unfortunately commonplace event, this tale from the Iraq War underscores the chaos of battle -- and the everyday heroism of those caught up in it.” – The Film Yap Apr 9, 2025 Full Review The Friend (2024) 84% 4/5 “Naomi Watts (with an assist from Billy Murray) stars in dog movie that's not really about dogs, but more a heartfelt exploration of grief and regret.” – The Film Yap Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Audrey  (2024) 81% 3.5/5 “In this deeply twisted Aussie comedy, a mother finds her miserable life much improved when her brat drama daughter falls into a coma.” – The Film Yap Apr 1, 2025 Full Review 3 Godfathers (1948) 88% 3.5/5 “A lesser partnership between the Johns -- Ford and Wayne -- this sentimental Western about three outlaws and a baby stresses the theme of civilization vs. chaos, faith/order vs. the law of the gun.” – The Film Yap Mar 31, 2025 Full Review Los Frikis (2024) 85% 4.5/5 “An incredibly moving and soulful story of young castoffs in 1990s Cuba who are sent to a remote camp for HIV-positive people -- many of them intentionally self-infected -- who end up creating a chaotic but empathetic community.” – The Film Yap Mar 28, 2025 Full Review Death of a Unicorn (2025) 54% 3.5/5 “Fable, horror, black comedy and (clumsy) impalement of the rich are on tap in this entertaining fantasy about unicorns living among us... but not as cute mythological ponies.” – The Film Yap Mar 28, 2025 Full Review The Penguin Lessons (2024) 78% 3.5/5 “Though it sounds like an ill-conceived mashup of "Evita," "Dead Poets Society" and "Mr. Popper's Penguins," this funny/sad look at a tired teacher reinvigorated by a lost penguin earns passing marks.” – The Film Yap Mar 26, 2025 Full Review Thank You Very Much (2023) 90% 4.5/5 “This eye-opening and entertaining documentary gives the definitive look at the man behind the madcap anti-comedy, who saw all of life as performance art.” – The Film Yap Mar 26, 2025 Full Review Audrey's Children (2024) 81% 4/5 “A smart, straightforward "great woman" biopic looks at the unheralded impact of Audrey Evans, a British doctor whose work in the States on pediatric cancer changed the course of history.” – The Film Yap Mar 26, 2025 Full Review On Becoming a Guinea Fowl (2024) 100% 4/5 “A searing look at an African community of women coming to terms with a deceased male elder who was responsible for a pattern of abuse. ” – The Film Yap Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Disney's Snow White (2025) 39% 3.5/5 “A vibrantly colored and high-gloss adaptation of the animated classic. Despite the hullaballoo, Rachel Zegler is an empathetic Snow White -- with some modern nods -- and Gal Gadot is impressively sinister as the evil queen. Even the CGI dwarfs ain't bad.” – The Film Yap Mar 21, 2025 Full Review
