Nonnas (2025) 80% 4/5 “With cinematographer Florian Ballhaus, Chbosky makes the food the real star of the movie. There’s a lot of ceiling-mounted camera work, and close-ups of various dishes being prepared, all guaranteed to make your mouth water profusely. Prepare to be wowed.” – Epoch Times May 9, 2025 Full Review Fight or Flight (2024) 77% 3.5/5 “I’ll be the first to admit that “Flight” is highly derivative. Being derivative doesn’t necessarily mean bad, but merely unoriginal. I can handle both derivative and unoriginal if it’s done right, and “Flight” gets a great deal right.” – Epoch Times May 8, 2025 Full Review Another Simple Favor (2025) 62% 4/5 “As with the first, the sequel ends in a manner that offers some degree of closure, yet leaves the door wide open for a third and final, installment. Neither of them will change your life but will entertain you and justify your emotional investment. ” – Epoch Times May 4, 2025 Full Review The Surfer (2024) 86% 4/5 ““The Surfer” isn’t a movie for all or most tastes. It’s blunt, raw, in your face, and unforgiving. It’s also strangely cathartic and freeing. Sometimes one has to be broken in order to feel whole and complete.” – Epoch Times May 2, 2025 Full Review Drop (2025) 84% 3/5 “Despite the gaping holes in the plot, “Drop” is surprisingly entertaining. It’s not suspenseful or gripping, just entertaining in a popcorn movie sort of way. It’s Hitchcock-lite, in other words, DePalma or Scorsese by way of Michael Bay or Brett Ratner.” – Epoch Times Apr 16, 2025 Full Review The King of Kings (2025) 63% 4.5/5 “Seong-ho includes almost every major event in Christ’s life and teachings without rushing, condensing, or turning them into a bullet-point presentation. What makes Kings so different, special, and infinitely watchable is the wholly original presentation.” – Epoch Times Apr 9, 2025 Full Review The Life List (2025) 45% 3/5 ““The Life List” won’t change your life but neither will it feel like a waste of time. It’s not great, but it’s good enough in a pinch. You could easily do worse.” – Epoch Times Mar 29, 2025 Full Review The Friend (2024) 84% 5/5 “Even when not physically present, Murray’s Walter leans heavily into the margins of the entire film. An extended fantasy scene late in the third act between Murray and Watts greatly underscores his effortless gravitas. ” – Epoch Times Mar 26, 2025 Full Review Novocaine (2025) 81% 3/5 “The big issue isn’t with the premise or the acting, or with the totally out-of-left-field, mind-bending plot twist that shows up midway through the third act. The movie is simply too long and is guilty of piling-on, something that almost ruined it for me.” – Epoch Times Mar 19, 2025 Full Review Mickey 17 (2025) 77% 4.5/5 “The pairing of Pattinson and Bong at this point in time is a perfect cinematic storm. Pattinson is looking for that sweet spot between art and commerce. Bong is trying to deliver a follow-up to a unexpected critical and commercial hit, without repetition.” – Epoch Times Mar 10, 2025 Full Review Brothers After War (2023) 4/5 “It’s impossible for anyone who is not a veteran to fully comprehend just how taxing living through wartime is, and that is ultimately Rademacher's mission here. This is a throbbing raw nerve of a movie that pulls no punches and contains no easy answers.” – Epoch Times Mar 5, 2025 Full Review Old Guy (2024) 27% 2.5/5 “The chemistry between Waltz and Hoffman is formidable and generally impressive. It’s unlikely that Hoffman will ever reach the performance heights achieved by his late father (Philip Seymour Hoffman), but he more than holds his own here.” – Epoch Times Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Cash for Gold (2024) 100% 4/5 “There are millions of women just like Grace. They are found not only in the US, but all over the world, going through similarly trying circumstances that have no easy answers. What makes Grace so inspiring is her refusal to give up and throw in the towel.” – Epoch Times Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Every Little Thing (2024) 95% 4.5/5 “[Director] Aitken adroitly weaves the flower passages throughout the entirely of the film, which results in something oddly alluring, hypnotic, and calming. As informative as the movie’s content is, the stylistic narrative is equally enthralling. ” – Epoch Times Jan 10, 2025 Full Review Homestead (2024) 46% 2.5/5 “While “Homestead” isn’t my favorite Angel movie (that would be “Cabrini”), it’s not my least favorite (“Sight”), either. Quality aside, I respect Angel for taking risks by expanding its artistic reach outside of the relatively safe faith and family genre.” – Epoch Times Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Dirty Angels (2024) 30% 3/5 “In tandem with his co-writers, Campbell realizes that while gunfire, bombs, and car chases are integral to this type of movie, it will fall apart without an interesting, compelling main story, and a few surprise subplot twists along the way.” – Epoch Times Dec 14, 2024 Full Review Carry-On (2024) 88% 4.5/5 “In “Carry-On,” Egerton all but channels Bruce Willis in “Die Hard” (minus the smirking). It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the movie ends in a manner which suggests a possible sequel. As much as my heart would like see that, my head says: “Please, don’t.”” – Epoch Times Dec 13, 2024 Full Review Mary (2024) 29% 4/5 “Director Caruso took an ages-old genre and infused it with a welcomed jolt of dramatic bite and daring storytelling. “Mary” takes a lot of chances. It stretches far beyond the genteel and ultra-safe boundaries usually associated with faith-based movies.” – Epoch Times Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Flow (2024) 97% 5/5 “It’s a tale of the aftermath of incalculable, unspecified devastation; but it’s also a metaphor of beings of differing backgrounds, with no knowledge of their fellow survivors, banding together to merely make it to the next day.” – Epoch Times Dec 5, 2024 Full Review Daruma (2023) 100% 5/5 “Directed by Alexander Yellen and written by his wife, Kelli McNeil (who also has a supporting role), “Daruma” shatters all road flick, quirky family film, and romantic drama blueprints, without going too far in the other direction on any level.” – Epoch Times Nov 25, 2024 Full Review The Piano Lesson (2024) 88% 3/5 “This movie doesn’t suffer from nepotism, but rather from a fumbled stage-to-screen transfer. If not for the stellar performance of Deadwyler, I would give the movie a slightly negative review. Because she is so good, I’m going marginally positive.” – Epoch Times Nov 23, 2024 Full Review Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin. (2024) 65% 4/5 ““Bonhoeffer” is a towering achievement. It gives audiences yet another view of WWII they likely never had before. The film goes further in cementing the fact that Adolf Hitler is the most vile and loathsome person in the history of humanity.” – Epoch Times Nov 21, 2024 Full Review A Real Pain (2024) 96% 4/5 “Eisenberg pulled off a minor miracle here. He melded the mismatched buddy road trip with an uncomfortable foreign land excursion, with—dare I say it—a Holocaust drama with more than impressive results while wearing four hats and keeping his ego in check.” – Epoch Times Nov 18, 2024 Full Review Bogart: Life Comes in Flashes (2024) 88% 3.5/5 “In this case, 100 minutes is not nearly enough time to properly document the life and career of someone as legendary and influential as Bogart. His story needs a Netflix or HBO mini-series treatment running three to four hours, maybe more.” – Epoch Times Nov 15, 2024 Full Review Blitz (2024) 81% 3.5/5 ““Blitz” is for McQueen what “Barry Lyndon” was for Kubrick and “The Master” was for PT Anderson. All three movies show filmmakers stretching beyond their usual comfort zones and trying something different. That is the sign of true daring and artistry.” – Epoch Times Nov 11, 2024 Full Review
