Shadowland (2024) 100% “It is simultaneously a unique portrait of a region full of engrossing magical tradition and a biting look at Stanley through his own words, but the narratives compete for attention, making both feel somewhat incomplete.” – Cineuropa Nov 28, 2024 Full Review Thank You for Banking with Us! (2024) “The script lacks beef in the subplot of Mariam’s troubles with her husband and misbehaving older son, but Abbas gives us a taste for the women’s interlocking everyday battles. Gender politics reign, but sisterly solidarity emerges as a welcome byproduct.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review The Summer Book (2024) 73% “From its first moments, the film sweeps you back to a childhood you never had as McDowell cultivates [...] a distinct feeling of anemoia – a perfectly constructed neologism for the feeling of nostalgia for a time one has never personally experienced. ” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review When Fall Is Coming (2024) 95% “Despite his often ruefully bleak and irresolvable subject matter, Ozon tints his world with an immense amount of cosy, environmental warmth lensed by Jérome Alméras [...]” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review The End (2024) 56% “[...] the operetta is a perfect format to examine how humans — particularly as an intergovernmental, corporate collective — have absolved themselves of responsibility for unimaginable crises while hurtling toward a deeply unsustainable future [...]” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Maybe It's True What They Say About Us (2024) “Gómez and Becerra cleverly strip out much of the conventionally flashy intrigue of this kind of story in order to show the parts that are most human, leaving the rest to the imagination.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Daniela Forever (2024) 83% “The filmmaker twists the boundary between the two worlds up through its cryptic, surrealist ending, leaving viewers to speculate on its final meaning – just like a dream itself.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Linda (2024) “Wainstein, with beautiful camerawork by DoP Marcos Hastrup, makes crystal clear the distinctions between our protagonist’s desire and the lustful attitudes projected upon her, gently reflecting her perspective.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review They Will Be Dust (2024) 100% “'They Will Be Dust' revels in its deadly honesty and an offhanded approach to passing away, confronting head-on and through a fictional lens many tacit social agreements around the unsparing idea of death.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review The Assessment (2024) 82% “[T]his is Fortuné’s twisted little psychosexual thriller made possible in large part by the multi-personalitied Vikander, who will have fans of emotional sadomasochism on screen kicking up their feet and giggling long after the movie ends.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Conclave (2024) 93% “Berger takes the material very seriously – but frankly, Conclave is so much more blasphemously fun if you don’t.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Mr. K (2024) 80% “Granted, this film doesn’t satisfy cravings for a logical adventure: Mr. K asks us to suspend constant cinematic intellectualising and simply accept that one might not understand everything (or anything) - but maybe you’re better off that way.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Bonjour Tristesse (2024) 60% “The film’s two hours float by like a boat on the Riviera waters – languorous with a delicious sprinkling of lingering disquietude. Oh, such beautiful, privileged indolence: j’ai la flemme.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Happy Holidays (2024) “Just as each character is doing their best to make life work, Copti provides no easy answers of right or wrong. In the filmmaker’s world, objective truth seems to bend slightly around the edges, and we find that things aren’t always as they seem.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review No Sleep Till (2024) “it is Simpson’s dedication to a cinematic duck-paddle (in a laudatory sense) – calm on the surface while hiding something frantic underneath – that ultimately fills the film with so much life, even when its subjects are at a standstill.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Hunters on a White Field (2024) 83% “The filmmaker’s topical critique of patriarchy, hierarchy and conformity ends up being rather one-dimensional. It’s hunt or be hunted, says Gyllenstierna (quite literally, in the dialogue as well)–but the motivations to hunt at all are left up in the air.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Family Therapy (2024) “Prosenc successfully encourages us to root for the family’s liberation from their own self-imposed ideals right through to the bitter end.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review The Dog Thief (2024) “Tomičic Salinas’ script meanders, but never aimlessly – it’s more a snapshot of this moment in Martín’s life than a hero’s journey. DoP Sergio Armstrong shoots La Paz as if it were the most vibrant city in the world, brimming with character.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review My Stolen Planet (2024) “Through voiceover, the filmmaker questions her impulse to film everything, but “to film or not to film” is never the question — it’s not so black and white. Film bears witness to tragedy and injustice, and documentation is therefore also endlessly vital.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review I Saw Three Black Lights (2024) “The film excels most potently in its visual style, with cinematographer Juan Velásquez bringing an emotive warmth to each scene despite the film being colour-graded toward cooler tones.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Journey of Shadows (2024) “In a subversion of expectations around an ultra-minimalist design, 'Journey of Shadows' is surprisingly tender and sometimes even sexual, conveyed effectively through careful movements without the need for facial expressions or vocalisations.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed (2024) 100% “Long, immersive scenes between family members and intimate moments where the camera simply observes everyday interactions create a fly-on-the-wall feeling that contributes to a strong sense of place where global and neighbourhood politics collide.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Grand Theft Hamlet (2024) 93% “Given that the actors-cum-gamers are operating in a virtual space with players from around the world, the film boasts several unexpected twists and a healthy dose of hilarity. However, the premise is ultimately more interesting than the actual execution.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Mi Bestia (2024) “Beltrán offers viewers delicious hints of genre aesthetics throughout with touches of the supernatural, but her crowning achievement is that 'Mi bestia' remains fresh and unexpected through to the very end.” – Cineuropa Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Pooja, Sir (2024) “The most compelling elements of this sociopolitically driven police crime-drama undoubtedly lie within a closer investigation of the film’s underbelly.” – Cineuropa Oct 8, 2024 Full Review
