Rec Reviews
[REC] (2007). I like zombie movies, among my favorites are Night of the Living Dead (1990), Return of the Living Dead (1985), Re-animator (1985), Rec (2007). Lots of screaming, xenophobic discussions, prejudices of the building's inhabitants, all of this seen in a comical way in the film. The beautiful protagonist Manuela Velasco as Angela Vidal, is the sexy girl who seems somewhat childish, even wearing pigtails like a little girl. The young policeman is a hateful and useless repressor who later makes an alliance with the bald fireman. The plot is like Demoni (1985) by Director Lamberto Bava, with the producer and script by Darío Argento, where locked-up people are possessed by demons instead of the living dead. The girl Tristana de Medeiros sounds like a mockery of Cristiano Ronaldo by a Barcelona fan Balaguero. The infected possessed people spend their time screaming while chasing the protagonists.
The runner up to the Blair witch.
A fun claustrophobic zombie movie, the shaker cam can be rough for those with motion sickness but still recommend.
I have a weird theory. But it actually make sense to me a lot. It was kinda weird to me that little girl started to run to the stairs all the sudden. Why she did that? Then I have noticed infected ones always gather at old women's apartment. The apartment where little girl also went after going to stairs. I was only able to think of a one good reason for this. They were going there because everything started there. But it seems like the last floor was the main source of this. Then I have thought actually the person who was doing all the experiments also made the last one on the old woman. She was old and living alone after all. And early in the movie, neighbours said she was acting weird all the time anyway. It might be because she was infected all the time and it took long to finally reach the final level. I dont know if this theory has been stated before and also haven't watched the other movies of REC. Lastly when cameraman and the reporter was looking for the manu before they start making they way to last floor. They were all at the bottom floors. They were gathered at the old womens apartment again I suppouse.
REC is probably the best “found footage” horror movie out there — not sure how you label Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, which is phenomenal. At only 77 minutes, Angela Vidal’s (Manuela Velasco) night goes from mundane to monstrous, after joining a crew of firefighters to an emergency call at an apartment building in Barcelona. As quick as you can say “quarantine!” the government locks down the building and threatens to fire on anyone who attempts to escape, which is a practical twist to the usual supernatural forces that keep characters from evading their demise. Viewed entirely through the eyes of Pablo’s (Pablo Rosso) camera for their late-night 온라인카지노추천 show While You’re Asleep (probably the worst name for a show ever), the danger feels immediate and scares personal. This is mostly a zombie movie (of the “rage” variety) with an exorcist element and monster (Javier Botet) twist, which is expanded in REC 2. I’ve actually viewed it a couple of times in the past but surprisingly didn’t have a rating or review. It’s fast-paced and thrilling, unpredictable and legitimately scary. REC is a must-watch for any horror fan and feels perfect for a scary date night. It was the perfect wrap-up for Horrorfest 2023.
Very good mockumentary, great tension. Maybe the ending isn't that satisfying, by the way it's a good movie.
Interesting premise and a very strong start, but it quickly runs out of steam and drags on a bit despite being less than 80 minutes long. The ending does have some really cool and creepy imagery, even if it doesn’t make any sense plot-wise. I respect how well it sticks with its found-footage premise. I wish the acting was better, the plot made more sense, and the characters were less fucking annoying. It was alright but there are plenty of better, similar movies out there.
Taking the found footage genre to new exciting levels. At an hour and 18 minutes it doesn’t feel rushed
One of the absolute classics in the zombie genre! REC is a found footage style zombie film set in an apartment building that has been quarantined by the government after a rabies-like zombie virus starts spreading to its residents. We end up in this apartment complex with our protagonists, a news reporter and her camera man, who were following a crew of firefighters to an emergency call in hopes of recording some interesting footage. We see the events of this film through the eyes of the said camera. Found footage is an especially hard film type to pull off because the acting can't be overly dramatic in any way, it has to be believable as if it is real people reacting to real situations. The film pulls this off almost flawlessly and the actors do a fantastic job coming across as if they are actually in this predicament. You feel as though you are stuck in this building with them, and you feel their panic. Spoiler: the virus ends up being paranormal rather than biological, and the protagonists end up encountering an evil entity that had been conjured within the abandoned apartment on the top floor, but the whole thing still feels grounded enough to be believable and scary nonetheless. The gore is very realistic and everything that happens has a very real weight to it which adds a real sense of urgency. The moments when you can hear the infected footsteps echoing towards our protagonists are sure to activate your fight or flight senses, and anyone who hasn't seen this before will be FULLY engaged in the story. Hell, I've seen this too many times to count and I still find it engaging. I regularly bring this movie up in discussions about perfectly constructed atmospheres. Recommended.
I am going to warn you that I didn’t like this movie, to the point it annoyed me, mostly because the American remake, Quarantine (2008), fixes most of the issues that this film had. First thing that bothered me was that the movie looked horrible. It was so shaky that it looked terrible. It did kinda draw you in but I still hated it and it made me feel sick and I couldn’t tell what was going on. The camera operator was deliberately bad, no professional is ever this bad. The sound design was fine, it actually sounded good which doesn’t match the video but I actually don’t mind the lack of “authenticity”. The story was a bit lacking. It was slightly believable and thought provoking but too slow, basic and badly paced. The characters should have carried the movie but were forgettable. There are three exciting moments in the first half hour interspersed with lots of boredom. It does ramp up with ever-increasing fear but is completely destroyed due to the painful camerawork. Stick to the remake or avoid found-footage horror altogether.
[REC] might just be the best found-footage horror film since “The Blair Witch Project” (while rivaling my other two favorites; Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 4); this is surprisingly and legitimately terrifying, with Manuela Velasco really bringing this thing together and making it feel truly dreadful.
I take back what I said about Blair Witch, this is the best found footage movie ever made. 9.2/10.
Uma revigorada em um estilo batido e cansativo de filme em primeira pessoa, porém esse filme conseguiu criar um ótimo clima de terror s de sensação de perigo.
I'm impressed how people have the creativity to build something new on an old idea, such as a zombie movie. This time, the action happens in a building (though it starts as a soft report from a late-night tv program). It remembers me the "Comando da Madrugada", by Goulart de Andrade, for the brazilian readers. The zombies look like next-door people, the fear is normal for people who are trapped in a building, the deaths are shocking and the victimis are just a few. Economic horror. And the end make us feel for waiting the next movie. A surpring joy.
