Felon Reviews
Director Ric Roman Waugh always tells an amazingly dramatic story, wrings out all the details in a script and assembles a cast to their highest potential. That and the brutally honest depiction of the prison politics- new or not- puts him up there with sure fire action brands like Gareth Evans.
This is one of my favorite prison movies. Very watchable. Excellent performances throughout - Dorff, Perrineau, Shepard and of course, Kilmer. I put it up there with Shawshank, Shotcaller (same director), and American Me.
This is a really good movie. Action, drama, philosophical. Watch it!
I don't know that anyone would be convicted of murder in this particular situation, but this low budget movie impressed me. Kilmer was still acting and Perrineau was a hatable prison guard.
Watching this seemed familiar. Very similar to 'Shotcaller', later and better film by same director.
FELON is a hard hitting action/suspense prison flick that holds attention throughout. It's about corruption in the prison system administration, conflict throughout the prison population and convict's family tension. Gripping and well cast, directed and produced. It certainly didn't look like him, but Val Kilmer's understated performance was standout and everyone else's was very well done.
That was one heavy movie. That should be shown to all kids before the leave school. Scared the c*$p out of me.
Having spent almost 8 years behind bars in my 20's...This movie reminds me why I moved 3000 kilometers away and changed my life. I was in gladiator school. I fought my way to survive and made it home in one piece and this great movie reminds me of why at 45 this summer and understanding the family dynamic that Steven Dorff was going through having a 5 year old myself, I will never go back. This was a dead pan account on accuracy and Dorf and Val Kilmer played their parts to protection. I hadn't watched this movie for about 5 years and it just brought back so much memories and once again reminded me to never make the mistake of ending up in a place like that again. I really was surprised the first time I watched this how good it was and I just felt the same enjoyment but also reminded me and scared the s*** out of me because folks this is real I remember fighting once a week at least to survive. And now the guys I grew up with and left in my old city are the shot callers in prisons and on the street and I'm sure glad that I'm not there. Great acting and an excellent antagonist in Lt. Jackson, although I hope I don't see that muther fukker again. At least not as a bad guy, well acted by Harold Perrineau P as well. And the others who played inmates. And of course Sam Shepard! As well as Dorff's wife Marisol Nichols. I Really enjoyed this movie.
A nearly good all-rounder. The best thing is having Val Kilmer in a worthwhile part - a philosophical character with his own sense of justice. He makes it a good film. Thanks Val.
An enjoyable prison movie; worth a watch if killing time: nothing to write home about. A reasonable plot with a few tear jerking moments, even a couple enjoyable characters—Val Kilmer, Link from the Matrix and the super Nazi guy—however slightly anti-climatic. Poor cinematography, and a cheesy as Hell final speech but, I had a good time watching. The only ridiculous beyond belief moment in the movie was, it had an FBI that cared, and wasn't totally corrupted like in real life.
If you enjoy the prison genre, you'll enjoy this movie. It's what you're most likely looking for. I'd rank them: Shawshank, Oz, Shot Caller, In the name of the father, starred up, then Felon - but like I said - if you're looking for a good prison movie this is 100% one of them.
This is probably the best prison movie since _The Shawshank Redemption_. It doesn't achieve the greatness of _Shawshank_, but it is still compelling, tightly written, and rewarding. Wade Porter is a good guy, a hard working blue collar family man. One night, a burglar breaks into his house through the window in his child's bedroom, grabs Wade's wallet, and flees out the front door. Wade follows him into the yard and clobbers him with a baseball bat, unintentionally killing him. The cops on the scene arrest him for murder, since the fleeing criminal was no longer a threat. Wade has to make a deal, pleading to involuntary manslaughter, the sentence for which is about three years. With good behavior, he could get out in 18 months. But once he is imprisoned, the bad stuff begins---skinheads forcing him to join their gang or else, and routine violent fights in the yard, staged by the guards, who watch with amusement and bet on the winners. Thanks to corrupt prison guard Jackson (Harold Perrineau), Wade is forced to do things that end up adding three more years to his sentence. He befriends his cellmate John Smith (Val Kilmer in a memorable performance), a philosophical man doing life for avenging the deaths of his wife and kids. Without any more synopsis, let's just say that the bad guys end up getting their comeuppance, John Smith ends up a martyr, and the ending is righteous. Sam Shepherd is also strong as a former prison official who plays a part in exposing the corruption of Jackson. The story is loosely based on the events at a California prison. It's chilling to think that this stuff really happened. I have never liked prison movies. I find them depressing. But the story here has a lot of humanity, and in spite of some typical clichés, it really packs an emotional wallop.
One of the best prison movies you are ever going to see. This movie shows how everybody to the inmates, their spouses, the guards are all in prison whether its mentally or physically. The battle for life to be good to come out whole in this movie is amazing, absolutely must watch.
Just like Shotcaller this is a really good movie about the struggles of prison even if a bit exaggerated. This director really knows how to tell these types of stories very good and I would love to see him Branch out into other areas in the future. Also, Val does a fantastic job in this movie and he deserves to get some bigger roles because he's still a great actor.
Felon is a pretty good movie. It made me anxious the whole time. Steven Dorf's transformation from naive to bad ass was amazing. I always think Val Kilmer is great. The story pissed me off from the beginning. Only in the fact that this happens in real life. No one should be incarcerated for protecting their family- even if they flee your home. What is to say they will never do it again? Harold did a great job as the bad cop. I just wished he would have lived so he could be in prison too. Very good movie.
This is in my top 3 favorite movies of all time. The entire movie is entertaining from start to finish. The story is phenomenal. The acting is outrageously good. The fighting scenes are remarkably real looking. Even if this were out of ten stars I would still rate it the best. I would HIGHLY recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of high intensity action, a badass story line, and great acting.
A new convict (Stephen Dorff) struggles to maintain his sanity and sense of humanity after he's thrust into a prison system in which a brutal guard (Harold Perrineau) encourages gladiatorial combat between inmates.
I told my girlfriend she should watch this movie called "Felon," and that it's about a guy who doesnt really belong in prison and gets into fights. She didnt like the sound of it (she digs Harry Potter movies) but having seen it before I insisted and she agreed to watch it. She was pulled into the movie after this first ten or fifteen minutes. "Felon" keeps you paying attention through the whole duration of the movie. There are no drawn out or irrelevant scenes, nothing you would feel you have to fast forward through. The sappiness is kept extremely minimal and when it is used, it works. The acting in this movie is excellent as well as the casting. Hell I bet half of these guys probabaly are ex-cons. You truly feel for Wade Porter as he continually gets screwed over. He's a guy you want to see out of prison and as the movie progresses you really get the feeling of how impossible that reality may become for him. I'll close this out with saying that "Felon" does an excellent job at making you never ever EVER want to go to prison.
Interesting enough but not quite mind-blowing.It had it's moments, kept me interested and wanting to know how it will end.I have to admit thought thatI wasn't really surprised with the finale, but the movie was still interesting because this theme is really unknown and unfamiliar to me.For that I have to say that itserved its purpose.I have to admit thought that I wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't on 온라인카지노추천.Certainly I won't sit and watch it again.
