The Last Song is a cute Nicolas Sparks adaptation that ended up serving as a nostalgic time capsule for Miley Cyrus’s early fans that’s also one of her most memorable films alongside Liam Hemsworth, for obvious reasons. While the writing is nothing more than a basic, clunky, and clichéd romance story, it’s innocent enough for fans of Nicholas Sparks and general romantic movies to enjoy. C

I knew something was wrong in the final act of "The Last Song" when the emotional moments were happening, and I really didn't feel much. The movie has some hokey writing and cheesy moments, but the issue is that the story just isn't that good. I think there are better romance movies, even the ones on the sappier side. I think Miley Cyrus has become an outstanding musician over time, but this movie was sort of a sign that her acting career might not really take off down the line. The movie has a sweetness and innocence that can be likable, but I still found myself just too bored and uninvested to truly get into this one. Overall, it is a movie that feels like it has the potential to be more, but mostly plays it safe and stays surface-level, never really engaging the audience on a deeper level.

Miley Cyrus as the lead in a Nicholas Sparks movie gives The Last Song the star power it didn't need. We've seen her play a bratty teenager who can sing before. However, she didn't do half bad, which is not the compliment an actor would want to hear. The emotional beats didn't deliver, but the overall movie experience wasn't too bad if you aren't looking for too much. And why do I wonder how it would have turned out with Hayden Panatierre as the lead? She's 3 years older than Miley in real life, but I believe she looked like a teenager at the time. Perhaps someone like Hayden would not have left me so underwhelmed. And not sure how this review became so long. Onto the next!

It's a classic teenage drama and it's amazing

This movie had a lot going against it- the script, the direction, the acting of Liam Hemsworth, etc. Miley Cyrus had to carry this one by herself which she almost managed given that they gave her an unlikeable character through the first two thirds of the movie. Miley Cyrus had enough charisma as a teen actress to keep me watching till the end. Ultimately the story was too blatantly emotionally manipulative to leave a good taste in my mouth. This is for Miley Cyrus fans only.

A college bound young woman and her little brother move in with their divorced father for the summer. Props to Bobby Coleman who played a powerful scene during the last act of the movie. Unfortunately he played the little brother and the older sister was played by Miley Cyrus with the other romantic lead played by Liam Hemsworth. I don't think their acting was a problem, but the writing of their relationship didn't work for me. Every time they took a step toward each other, I felt as if that step should have pushed them away from each other and I didn't buy the love story at all. There might be enough good stuff here for someone to enjoy it, but this movie didn't work for me.

i liked it. it was so unexpected and definitely not what i thought would happen. but the romance is so cliche and i don't know i don't see much chemistry.

If you like Sparks movies, this instalment won't disappoint or excite.

20 minutes too long, at times unnecessarily melodramatic and Miley Cyrus isn't the best actor. But our likeable leads have chemistry, emotional scenes in the final act pay off, good music and the beach setting all contribute to a pleasant enough watch. And will certainly please it's teenage demographic. Plus turtles are cute!

Story/Screenplay: (2.5/5) One of two of our romantic leads has a serious bipolar disorder (I'm angry with you for no reason, I love you, I'm angry again for no reason, I love you again, etc.). Too much whiplash. The story had its moments, but it suffered from a bad case of manipulated sentimentality. Duration/Tempo: (3/5) At 1 hour and 47 minutes, it's an average length movie that felt a tad longer. Would have liked to see it shortened. Cast & Crew: (2.5/5) While Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are likable in their roles, Cyrus' performance feels stilted. Greg Kinnear does well. Summary: (2.5/5) The story fails, the cast is uneven, and the movie felt longer than it should. A regrettable thumbs down.

I liked a Walk to Remember, so I hoped I would like this. It didn't happen. As a matter of fact, this may be my least favorite movie to date. Not only is the plot far too predictable, but the chemistry seems forced and the dialogue... just needs help.
