Better Off Dead Reviews

Absolutely adore this film. Used to watch it to death as a kid. They don't make em like this anymore. Quirky humor that's actually funny and keeps it's soul

No idea why this has such a high rating. It’s not even a fun 80s movie. It’s disjointed, to say the least. It starts out extremely slow and honestly really boring. The South Park parody is the only reason I looked this up and SP was a way better use of my time.

Oozing with 80's visual comedy. In the future, Shia LaBeouf may have borrowed from Cusack's character in this movie.

One of the 80s top classics. "THIS IS PURE SNOW!!" lol Love it. These days though, It would be nice to be able to edit a great film and just remove any actors that turned out to be horrific people, even if it appears the other actors are interacting with dead air, I wouldn't mind at all. 5 star film, a must see.

This is one of my favorite movies ever because it encompasses every teenage daydream as well as every teenage nightmare in the perfect example of an 80s out-of-pocket comedy movie

This movie is great. Nostalgia. Sorry I'm tired. But it's definitely a classic borderline um.... cult? In my book. I was born in 88 but my oldest of my three older brothers is ten years older than me so I was introduced to many 80s movies early on. This one ranks top spot for me. Even though my parents let me, young girl back then, watch Total Recall, to which I had Doug (Arnold) on my birthday cake at my preschool. Even though he blabbed about Mars. What a time back then...

One of my all time favorite comedies. Can’t wait to watch it again and again.

Strangest 80's teen film! See it!

Classic comedy with a brilliant pace. Still using lines from this film today.

Better Off Dead is one of the most absurd movies I've ever seen and I love it. This movie has tons of great recurring gags that continue to build up, it's great. It definitely gives off UHF vibes and it's a great good 80s rom-com. If you're looking for something zany and unrepeatable, this is the movie for you.

This semi-autobiographical comedy from 1985 is funny as hell. John Cusack was apparently not a fan, but it's a classic. Yeah, kind of stupid in places but, /shrug.

Over 35 years old and a heck of a good watch starring John Cusack and Diane Franklin Lane is an oddball and his girlfriend breaks up with him Then he’s thinking about killing himself but to no avail He then starts hanging around with a foreign exchange student Monique Lane wants to win back his ex even by skiing but maybe Monique could set him on a different path than he intended Director Savage Steve Holland actually based this on his own experiences as a teenager Among many teen movies; the difference with this one in many of the entries in the 80's teen genre was its black humor dealing with teen suicide, it handled it in a more comedic manner rather than intentionally making it depressing There’s so many sequences Lane is hallucinating and what the audience is seeing is downright bizarre then again it is his way of dealing with the current reality he's living in until he feels better Heck there's even a trippy scene involving some fast food coming to life and singing The restaurants slogan Better Off Dead again gets by on its strange mix of brand comedy with a great young lead Good not great but I admit the skiing sequence at the end was very exciting to watch Not one of the best in the collection of teen flicks but still a worthy one to laugh with I also love the constant running joke of the paperboy it knocked my socks off!

Look... It's fun. In the 80's, that what is was about... This movie is strange and wacky but had great lovable people in it... The music, the French girl (Diane Franklin - wow), that Camaro, that kid.... Just fun. My brother and I still say "I want my two dollars" to each other... we are in our 50's. I forgot about Bugger, too. Last... we all know people like Beth and Stalin. They were easy to hate... I still laugh about the tentacles gag..

This isn't a 4.5 because it's an OSCAR winner. As a kid who graduated in the 80's, this movie has fond memories. Not a total slap stick, not too serious... but covers a serious issue in a completely hilarious way. I give it 4.5 for its fun level. Thier was nothing really like it... Your never "Better Off Dead - I want my two $'s!!!"

One of my favorite comedies. I have probably seen this movie more times than any other movie made. I first saw this movie when it first came out. I still watch this movie about once a year. I still laugh out loud at some of the scenes. John Cusack does a great job in this movie. But the supporting characters are also very good. I repeat several lines from this movie all the time.

I'm incapable of judging this movie on any objective criteria. If you grew up in the 80s, chances are it will speak to you. Deeply. And, to those of us to whom it speaks, understand that we must - MUST, I say - forgive John Cusak his many future crappy films. No matter how many there might be. And there are so many.

Words can not describe a perfect 80s teen comedy starring John Cusack

There's some 80s charm here. I vaguely remember seeing it as a kid. There are some funny and goofy comedy bits and it was worth revisiting this. I can't say for sure that I'll ever watch it again. Major 80s. I'm glad I gave it a new whirl.
