The Punisher Reviews
Pretty tame for an R-rated movie. Then again, it's Disney property now. 7.4/10 - Very good.
Good action and funny lines, but very little character development at all. The plot is also strange and leaves you rooting for the mobsters to get their kids back more than you care about Frank Castle being the one to save them. The cops are very cliche all the way till the end when he's screaming for Frank on the roof.
It looks like a 007 movie starring Stallone. Great action movie from the 80s, totally of its time. I loved the plot and the cast.
Saw this movie when I was a kid, watched it recently and thought it was still an enjoyable action film. Think Dolph Lundgren was good in this film. It's a short entertaining action film. The plots simple, and though it doesn't have any recognised 'Punisher' villains, I don't see why it gets all the negativity. An easy watching, 80's action film, that isn't trying to reinvent the wheel. Worth a watch
As a comic book nerd, I had high hopes for "The Punisher," especially with Dolph Lundgren perfectly cast as Frank Castle. However, this over-the-top 80's action flick falls short as a comic adaptation. While Lundgren embodies the brooding vigilante, the film strays far from the source material, which is disappointing. Lady Tanaka is a fearless and worthy villain, yet she’s not from the comics, adding to the sense of betrayal for fans like me. The movie offers mindless action, but the lack of comic accuracy and a paper-thin plot make it less satisfying. Frank Castle’s traumatic backstory deserved more weight than the few flashbacks we got. If you’re into typical 80's action, you might enjoy this, but if you’re looking for a true comic book film, prepare to be let down. Following the comics more closely could’ve made this film really good.
I wish I liked this at least in a comically entertaining way, but unfortunately it's an ill concieved, poorly structured yawn of a movie. Lundgren tries so hard to be a tough guy but it's just weird.
Despite best score for 2004 version, I think the Dolph Lundgren's Punisher is dark and action packed movie, also villains are great. I love this version.
Esqueça tudo que sabe de ruim sobre Punisher. Dolph Lundgren precisa passar e chutar algumas bundas.
I'm not sure if the writers of this had ever actually read a Punisher graphic novel as its really only loosely based on Marvels anti-hero character. It's violent, in a comic book, unrealistic way but that said its very well made and still a damn enjoyable 80's action movie with the unstoppable Dolph racking up a body count in the hundreds. If I was a criminal in the Punisher's vicinity I'd be seriously rethinking my life choices :)
I honestly think that this movie is pretty decent along with the other two punisher movies that we will talk about later this one maybe bad, but I thought it was pretty entertaining through the half mark.
First MARVEL movie thriller ahead of its time great cast on all the characters, Lundgren still an imposing force of nature.
Underrated, because this film is just great. Might have made loads of changes to the original story from the comics, and maybe a few other things, but enjoyed every minute of it. The Punisher is one of the better Marvel films out there and it was released in 1989. And I think Dolph Lundgren did a great job. A movie you definitely need to see in your lifetime.
Cheesy film that makes the Punisher feel far more like a crazy man than a real vigilante hero.
Dolph Lundgren is the Punisher in this first adaptation of the Marvel comics character.. a very 80s revenge action film with a rather emotionless Lundgren in the lead. Lots of violent action scenes, Jeroen Krabbé Louis Gossett Jr. show up in key supporting roles... Punisher has a buddy who speaks all in rhymes for some reason.. the subsequent versions of the character are much better than this one.. but i'll still give it 1 star cause it has some decent action.
Long before MCU, Blade or X-men. I found very amusing the violence in display, suffers from some lack of tone and identity but is sad to think we will probably never going to something bring like this again. A product of his time
