Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rated: B+ Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Todd McCarthy Variety Rob Roy has its diversions, but they are unfortunately outweighed by some heavy baggage that contains not enough of substance. Mar 26, 2009 Full Review Steven D. Greydanus Decent Films Where Braveheart was a guts-and-glory battlefield hymn to fortitude, Rob Roy is a more personal, more intelligent, and more wrenching exploration of honor, honesty, and loyalty. Rated: A- Oct 29, 2008 Full Review Quentin Curtis Independent on Sunday The first point to make about Alan Sharp's script is that it travesties history, bearing only the flimsiest resemblance to the facts of Rob's life... The second point is that it's one of the best screenplays of the last decade. Audience Member 90% historical nonsense..rob roy was no hero as depicted in this..he stole cattle and ripped off other's regularly...the real Cunningham was not english but Scottish...they also never dueled nor ever met...Jessica langes Scottish accent was the true crime here...Neesons not much better...typical Scottish perfect, English all bad yarn...ignore all that and it's watchable Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/09/25 Full Review Frans B Forget "period correct", it is a MOVIE! Brilliantly done by all actors involved. Stunning photography and scenery. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/25 Full Review Will G Very entertaining, Tim Roth is a hissable villain, indeed all the acting is much above par. As historic fact terrible! But if you're a student of history read a book. Och aye. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/15/25 Full Review K K A story of honor and love holding strong bonds in a time of deceit and greed. Wonderfully acted period piece. Definitely worth the watch. Tension builds as it rolls and bounds it's way to a edge of your seat climax. Good piece of cinema hostory Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Jim P If you want a glimpse of Scottish history, life in the 1700s, then this is for you. You'll see how the peasants (normal people) were done over by the Rich (mainly English). And the acting is incredible! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/02/25 Full Review Audience Member Braveheart but less gory and more heartfelt story Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews
