Boys Reviews
Winona Ryder is as good as ever but the script has nothing to offer.
Winona Ryder is one of the best actresses, but her talent is wasted in this dull and uninspired film.
I literally cried after seeing this movie, it's THE love story I wish I had in my life, Winona's character is realistic and the circumstances as well, I watch it once in awhile because I don't want to lose the feelings I get when I watch it like I had when I first watched it, my favorite film.
Dull, pointless. Plot is all over the place, and ultimately goes nowhere. Direction is listless. The boys' characters are irritating and the performances (including that of Lukas Haas) are unconvincing. The only positive thing about the movie is that it stars the wonderful and gorgeous Winona Ryder.
"Boys' is an interesting failure in that it's a much calmer Generation X movie than the "SFW"s of the world and it has a bit more intelligence than the "Empire Records" we got too. Winona Ryder gives the movie it's spark, but unfortunately her character is as murky to us as Lukas Haas's main character- a private school teen who finds her with amnesia and falls in love. Has the kind of vibe of being able to grow on you after repeated viewings or provide some solid '90's nostalgia of this time period in "young adult" films.
This movie was downright terrible. There was supposed to be romance between the two main characters, but all that was displayed was Ryder's famous smirk and the guy's weird smile. That aside, the plot of the movie was horrendous. :rotten:

I really don't know what the entire point of this film was to begin with and how anyone thought this should have been turned into a theatrical release. I originally wanted to see this film because A. it has my favorite actress Winona Ryder in it and this is one of her films that I have never seen & B. the movie was made and takes place in Maryland where I am from. So I figured it's nota very well known film Ryder is the only big named attached to it maybe its gonna be like a mid 90's indie type of movie. No, this film is like a pointless LMN. For those who don't know what an LMN stands for it means: Lifetime Movie Network. Yes this film is that bad that I have downgraded it to the bottom of the bin a Lifetime movie. But the storyline itself really doesn't make any sense and the gaps in the storyline drag the viewer til the very end thinking that when the big reveal comes were all going to be blown away, but I wasn't. The ending was lame and I didn't like any of the actor when it was over. Ryder's character just confused me cause I thought she was going to be like this bad girl type and in the end she was just depressing and basically a pediphile to young teenage boys. And Lukas Haas along with all the other teenagers were just dumb as shit and annoyed the hell out of me. I hoped their characters all got expelled cause how can you go to such a nice expensive school like they do in the film and have no common sense and just be so stupid? I'm a bit mad after seeing this cause the stupidity of the character came off onto me afterwards cause I felt dumb for having sat through the entire movie.
