Jack Reviews
As a kid i though this film was OK. The script lets it down at times, as does Fran Dresher. ew.
I'm not sure this movie needed to exist. It's a one-of-a-kind film alright, but with such a strange premise that the whole thing feels really bizarre. It was still an amusing little coming of age tale, but one that would have worked better had it maybe been approached differently. That being said, I don't think anyone besides Robin Williams could have pulled it off the degree that it did succeed. (He has a certain child-like wonder and imagination about him that was fitting for the role). There were some parts that were cute and heartwarming, but just as many that were downright awkward. I didn't think the plot was all that interesting but there were many relatable themes to be found. A desire to fit in, wanting the most out of life, and dealing with one's own mortality. It was weird to find them all in a 10 year old boy played by a grown man, but that's kind of what I'm talking about. This could have been a much better film, but there was just too many things that felt off to really connect with it.
Robin Williams is so good in this but the script really lets him down at times. Had they removed the whole Fran Drescher scene and added more of what it's like as him alone would have been more intriguing. Still this movie has some good moments. We miss you Robin.
It just does not work. It's tedious. Did not make me so much as smile let alone laugh. Even a bit creepy at times.
Where do you even start with this one. This has several big issues. First off this is such a weird idea for a movie to begin with. Second, the tone is all over the place and can turn on a dime without warning. It's either super silly, unintentionally creepy, or sad while always having a layer of awkwardness throughout. I truly can't tell you who the target audience for this is. It has so many scenes inappropiate for kids but also is way too silly/stupid for adults but too creepy for either. Finally throughout 90% of this the acting is soooooo awkward. You can tell everyone is so uncomforable saying there lines and treating Jack likes he a little kid. They clearly don't believe it and find it awkward and it shines through pretty much every scene. The music is all over the place as well from sappy to stupid and silly and just plain weird. Add in a ton of sexual innuendos, fart jokes, and weird humor that never hits once and just comes off as creepy and awkward and you can see why this is something I would'nt recommend except to the hardest of hardcore Williams fans. Everything about it is subpar and awkward. I still can't believe Copella did this....What the heck happened here.
LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 53 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 53 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!! However, 2 f-bombs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Featuring Bill Cosby as Jack Powell's friend and Jennifer Lopez as his teacher, Miss Marques!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Featuring Robin Williams as Jack Powell!!!!!!!!
It makes me disappointed that others can't see the meaning and message behind this movie as well as the comedic, emotional, and truthful acting from Robin Williams and the child actors. My father showed me this movie when I was 10 years old, the same age reflected of Jack in the film. Even as a 10 year old, I understood the message about the challenges of childhood exclusion, bullying, and being different from others. The inspiring message of the movie is that despite these challenges, always be yourself, and allow yourself to experience the world even if it seems scary. Whenever I need a good cry, a pick-me-up film, this films reminds me of the good experiences I had and have yet to come, and to appreciate all of lifes moments, hardships, ups and downs.
I thought 'Jack' was great and not creepy at all. I believe Robin Williams was genuinely a pure soul and did a believable job in his role. I have no idea why people hate the film and find it "creepy". 84/100 B
Jack is a light-hearted movie with a few very emotional scenes that allow you to connect with the characters on an emotional level. Jack is directed by Francis Ford Coppola who is most famous for The Godfather, a movie that is in a completely different area of film to Jack. While Jack is not a usual type of film for Coppola, he was still able to give the audience a sense of what it would be like living with Progeria. Robin Williams plays a 10-year-old boy suffering from Progeria, a disorder where the patient ages faster than normal and I think that Robin Williams took on this role well. Sure, it may not be his best work but he gave us another memorable role. I really loved this movie and I'd definitely watch it again.
Robin Williams is really outstanding comedic actor but this movie is just sad weird unfunny movie about Jack who has unusual disorder that make him age so fast by the end he gets older and spoiler alert he dies which is unnecessary and sad and unfunny family movie.
this one made me cry
I loved this movie as a kid and as an adult Robin Williams is genius in it and the rest of the cast are brilliant too! Very under rated film that everyone can enjoy.
This dramatic comedy was pretty good. Robin Williams, Diane Lane, Jennifer Lopez, Brian Kerwin, Bill Cosby, Fran Drescher, and the rest of the cast did a great job in this movie. The plot to the movie was peculiar, entertaining, and dramatic. It's about being different from others, trying to fit in, and making special memories. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you'll probably enjoy it. This movie wasn't spectacular, but it's worth watching sometime. That's my opinion.
Williams is really good, the film is really bad.
Great family watch, will eventually watch again, and can recommend. Honestly, it is good to see Robin Williams do what he was great at, comedic acting with joy and passion relatable to a child. While he notably participated in many acting processes that we're not that, but ultimately it's what made him famous and what he enjoyed in the industry. It's good to know we can having comedies with substance, even if it has a depressing edge. Remember to enjoy the time we have. Fun to see a young Jennifer Lopez, and interesting to see Bill Cosby before he was outed for his crimes. All that aside, he was famous for being a good and successful actor. Robin Williams really tackled the embodiment of a child in this role, and it makes for a lovely, heart warming movie.
Jack is a really silly plot and only works because of Robin Williams. I would only watch it if you are a fan of Robin Williams, other then that you can pass on it.
While it holds grounding by a talented director and cast, its screenplay never allows it to gain its full potential. Williams does have fun (improv) bits, though.
Such a good and kind of realistic look into a preteenage boys mind. And a great performance as you grow with jack through the movie, thank you Robin Williams
