Sleepers Reviews
Really good movies - great cast really deep stories lines, must see movies !
Tra i film più belli di sempre.
While I couldn't look away from Sleepers, the film heavily leaned on the disturbing portrayal of children being tortured and abused, resulting in a deeply uncomfortable viewing experience that will likely linger. The memory is etched in my mind, a constant presence that refuses to fade. The second half felt hurried, and the courtroom sequences came across as highly unrealistic, especially to those familiar with legal procedures.
Brilliant, absolutely stunning, the acting top notch, pacing and dialog perfect. The characters we easy to invest in and believable, the abuse in it is very hard to watch but it is needed to put the events leading to the trial into context. An absolute must see.
An uncomfortable subject but one that is portrayed well by the cast. The performances alone make this one that is in my collection for re watching every few years.
Never has a film lost so much momentum as soon as the adults take over.
Whether or not such immoral, atrocious acts as child abuse should be implied in film a touchy subject. Sleepers relays the pain and bitterness of such victims. While there is a certain satisfaction to how the film ends, there is also the looming question of "did that really happen?" that troubles this entire project.
Disturbing story of rape and revenge. Would prefer to see women get revenge on their abusers as they are more often victims. Rape and abuse of all minors is horrendous and society must punish the abusers severely.
Though the film loses focus and tends to meander in it's difficult to believe second half, brilliant performances from De Niro, Bacon, and the child actors paired with a strong score make this a mostly entertaining film despite occasionally being difficult to watch.
This crime movie was really good. Jason Patric, Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt, Ron Eldard, Billy Crudup, Robert De Niro, Minnie Driver, Dustin Hoffman, Brad Renfro, Joseph Perrino, and the rest of the cast did a fantastic job in this movie. The plot of the movie was dramatic, evil, and thrilling. It's about taking revenge and bringing justice for being victimized by evil people. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see.
The story is heartbreaking I shared the pain with the 4 boys BUT it just was way too scattered.
Incredible cast with fantastic performances all around! Beautiful and heart-warming revenge story.
"Sleepers" can often be a tough film to watch and is surrounded by many real-life controversies, but it is nonetheless an effective experience. Particularly the first half of this movie is hard to shake off. The performances are very good and the movie sets the stage really well. The movie shifts gears and becomes more of a courtroom drama in the second half. While I liked this part of the movie, is where it did start to lose me a bit. I still felt invested in the characters throughout but I think the beginning section of the movie is the part that makes it so memorable. Overall, this is a gripping movie told with great intensity and is one of the forgotten movies from the 90s that is well worth checking out for anyone who can stomach some of its content.
My least favorite Brad Pitt film to date.
An awesome dive into the traumas experienced by a group of young boys and a well put court case. The revenge aspect wasn't done very well but it didn't affect the flow and positive experience of viewing the film.
This is one of my favourite films of all time. It's not a film you enjoy, you endure it. I read the book after I had watched the movie a couple of times, and it is very true to it. The movie is very hard to watch in some places especially considering its hard hitting content. Watching the boys go through everything they do, in the "present" and then more in depth through flashbacks is a very clever way to show you everything they had to go through. Robert De Niro as Father Bobby is the lynchpin that holds this whole story together. An absolutely stellar cast with Jason Patric, Brad Pitt, Kevin Bacon, and Minnie Driver. The emotions you have watching this film run so high right to the end scenes it holds you in the palm of their hand. If you want to watch a serious movie, covering very serious topics (I refuse to give any spoilers), then definitely watch Sleepers.
It's moderately engaging throughout, the cast is pretty good and the courtroom scenes during the final act are quite tense, nevertheless "Sleepers" wastes some of its potential. Although it manages to be moving now and then, this emotional reaction stems from the harrowing subject matter and not the script or direction. The dialogues are too stilted, the resolution is predictable and presented in a Hollywoodian manner and several plot holes are ignored in order for the story to work out.
"Slipping away." Once again a movie in two parts; the past, the present. The first part is strong, talks about a taboo subject, it's interesting and then you've got a trial years after but it's about something else and the silence is heavy. Great performers here though.
A cynical look at the youth detention system. Superb acting. This is a morality play that deserves serious reflection. NOT FOR CHILDREN.
