Denzel at his finest, an actor that consistently exhibits his acting range.

I don't know how they didn't give him the Oscar, in the isolation scene I had the chills not to mention when he says to his wife to divorce from him

Simply beautiful, warming, frustrating, and immaculate.

Fighting for the right to live The performance by Denzel Washington in this Spike Lee movie was very effective, despite expectations. The horrors of the reality that this is based on a true story are troubling, but the story and plot deliver us through the telling of a story about the problems of society and the need to remain strong through the roughest of them. I saw this movie while I was expelled from my high school for a fistfight which happened in the hallway. It taught me a lot about life at the time, and Denzel's performance is great. The soundtrack is amazing as well, and a lot of people pooled together to tell this true story.

By no stretch of the imagination is Norman Jewison's The Hurricane a perfect movie. For one, the secondary characters all seem a bit shallow. What made Detective Della Pesca (Dan Hedaya) the hateful and vindictive man that he was? Who exactly are these three Canadians who came to the rescue of Ruben Carter and what the hell is their relationship to each other? Another problem is an abundance of stilted dialogue that manages to suck the energy out of a lot of the scenes. However, the story itself is fascinating and Denzel Washington gives a powerful performance as the wrongly convicted ‘Hurricane' Carter. Washington's performance alone makes The Hurricane worth watching.

As a film “The Hurricane” is affecting enough, but despite Carter’s innocence in the crime that put him in prison, the filmmakers ignore Carter’s violent incidents while on bail and present invented persecutions from fictional characters. The film would have been interesting enough if done honestly.

Uplifting story of US boxer falsely imprisoned for a murder. Washington is superb in the lead as Ruben Carter.

This movie was so inspirational. Denzel gives and amazing performance. Its also a great mystery in disguise.

The Hurricane can’t help but stumble through its story as it takes risks. But Denzel Washington’s brilliant lead performance makes the film worth the watch.

Thanks in part to Denzel Washington's Oscar-worthy performance, The Hurricane is a powerful and moving true-life drama

My only foreknowledge coming into this film was limited to what is heard in the Bob Dylan ballad and, aside from being aware Rubin Carter was eventually released, I knew nothing about his experience behind bars or the efforts it took to gain his freedom. I generally don't enjoy biopics or historical dramas because of the inherent bias and exaggeration that exists, which then requires wading through more media to parse out how much of what was seen in the film was "true". When a movie or show's subject is based on a book written by that same subject, alarm bells usually start going off. This doesn't mean it will be a bad film or show, but only that one needs to constantly remember whose voice is telling the story, and how reliable and self critical that voice is in representing reality. Denzel Washington puts in one of his better performances and makes what has sadly become an all too common book or film, premised on another example of the horrifying injustices some face based on race, into a memorable story exhibiting the value of faith, perseverance, and friendship. Shout out to Clancy Brown for really stretching outside his comfort zone with his role in this one...

Slow, tiresome, and predictable, but perhaps heart-warming enough for some.

One of Washington's greatest performances and that's saying a lot..

Denzel Washington plays Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter, whom was a successful boxer back in the day but because of the massive discrimination against blacks in 1966 he was falsely accused of committing murder and thrown away in prison for over 30 years without so much as a fair trial flash to 1973 he still has hope of getting out; hate is what locked him up love is what will set him free during his incarceration he has also written an autobiography called the 16th Round detailing what actually happened during his imprisonment he chooses to not live by society's rules so he can find some semblance of sanity and stability, turning his body into a weapon would be his best defense against the hate and the inhumane nature of the world mentors Liev Schrieber and John Hannah aid a small boy Lesra wanting to go to college to read who believe in him, they even want to assist in getting him exonerated as soon as possible all of it becomes an on-going fight against the racist establishment of unjust law a lot of this stems from the prejudice of Detective Della Pesca who's had it in for Rubin since he was a small boy and time and time again he's abused his power making Rubin's life less than joyful Rubin works with these newcomers to help get the justice he deserves breaking down each piece of the puzzle, it's still a huge risk having him retried even taking his case to federal court not all judges are racist but not all blacks are criminals, a racially charged atmosphere can affect everything, crimes can be committed against the innocent, the corruption can be found even in the justice department this is a very lengthy movie but it is still one of Denzel Washington's best-acted a very different kind of sports drama I gotta say

Feb 23, 2019

Simply Amazing. A must see.
