Whatever It Takes Reviews
Doing injustice to the classic play of which it modernizes, when it comes to being a smart, funny comedy, Whatever It Takes isn't willing to do the work.
Boring, cliché storyline and creepy characters. The acting leaves to be desired and the characters are forgettable.
I kinda like it. It was cliche but Not that bad. James was so handsome in the movie.
Just another teen movie. Just another lesser interpretation Of Cyrano de Bergerac. I don't even remember this film and I was the core demographic when it was released. It does have an impressive cast of up and comers (James Franco, Aaron Paul, Colin Hanks). The featured character actors are really the best part Richard Schiff as a sadistic gym teacher and the wonderful Julia Sweeney that I wished had been utilised more - the film would have been much better and infinitely funnier. Instead it's just another teen movie about the dumb guy who doesn't see what's right in front of him until he lies, manipulates, acts like a jerk to his real friends, gives up everything to be with a girl who is a horrible person but is "hot" and helps a scumbag manipulate his best friend into a relationship - then he wakes up to the fact that the girl who has always been there for him and who he's always under appreciated might be the best person for him. Happy ending?
This movie is not a masterpiece nor does it pretend to be. It is in the same category as the American Pie, though perhaps a bit less funny and ted more melodramatic. All in all it is a very enjoyable movie.
shockingly bad script drags down 4 likable leads!
Adequate at capturing cliche and yet adequate in capturing the true mood of those cliches. Breathing is a cliche and yet a breath of fresh air can be refreshing,
Teen romance shit and fetus stars. You can feel the 2000 era in every scene
Pretty good movie. Has romance and although the story isn't original, the events that take place make the movie one worth watching. I liked James Franco in this.
A decent teen coming of age film. Lots of good performances within a decent plot. I especially liked the performance of Marla Sokoloff as the intellectual teen Maggie Carter. I will admit the plot is formulaic but still highly entertaining. The obvious meaning to the film is that many people miss love right in front of their face & romantically pursue the wrong people. This film reminded me a lot of John Tucker Must Die (2006) & Trojan War (1997) with Jennifer Love Hewitt. Definitely a look at teen speak & late teen mentalities on love & dating. I will admit I laughed quite a bit in the film.
***Due to the recent RT changes that have basically ruined my past reviews, I am mostly only giving a rating rather than a full review.***
What I got to say about "Whatever It Takes" is that it's movie that is "really charming vibe to it!" The performances in this movie are fine. The directing by David Raynr is good. This screenplay by Mark Schwahn is fine. The cinematography is okay. And the score in this movie is decent. "I personally don't know if it's trying to be a comedy or a drama." Why I say that is because there moments that "it tries to be funny, when really it's really not." So I found this as romantic story with a drama vibe to it because I seen lot of romantic and drama in the story-line.
Hilarious and so over the top cute; basically everything a feel-good chick flick is made out of. Of course it was extremely cliched, and I would never call this Oscar nomination quality, but it's enjoyable to say the least. We all have a soft spot for these types of movies...at least I do.
I have a long, sored history with this film. Kind of cheesy, but funny. First thing I ever saw James Franco in, he did quite well. Plus, any kind of we're-only-friends love stories I tend to dig.
