Loser Reviews

Feb 1, 2025

Filme mais ou menos, o roteiro é fraco, o filme tem cenas meio românticas que não foram suficiente para o filme ser bom, mas a combinação entre a mena sucari e o jason biggs é bacaninha e salva o filme de ser ruim.

I don't know why this got poor reviews. It's a decent enough story, and there's plenty of interesting characters along the way. It also has a cool music video and a happy ending. The only problem I could see was that the story is a little bit too real, and reflects badly on American society when you see how students from modest backgrounds get treated by the people exploiting them. Putting that to one side the film is ok, and perfectly watchable.

He is exactly what the title says, he's a loser. Really funny too. Just your typical loser going through college.

2.8. I think the overlooking of date raping may have not gone as well today tho

A charming time capsule of the early 2000s. We've all seen the nice guy get the girl a million times before, but the character work in Loser combined with standout performances by Biggs, Suvari, and Kinnear makes the film worth watching.

appropriately titled for its unlikable script and characters.

I went with 3 stars on this movie I have seen it a few times, but I have not seen this movie in forever I so would watch again. I recommend to see this movie very cute movie about 2 teens that fall in love I seen it got pretty low scores. Nostalgia hits hard with this movie, I seen this movie at the movies on vacation I think it was Cape Cod years ago with a friend I have not seen in forever go give it some love.

This is one of those underrated classic 90's movies. Any 2-3 star movie in the 90's in easily a 4 out of 5 now... It aint the best movie but it's I thought it was a great watch with some interesting characters on how some people's college life consists of

Predictable? Yes, Underwritten and childish? Probably. But nevertheless, what Amy Heckerling has achieved here is a pretty accurate portrait of what Junior High represents for a country boy. Yes, dialogues lack of content, and yup, there's nothing new under the sun. Still, Loser is a fun movie to match, entertaining and memorable for whom is looking for a refreshing movie.

It's alright. Pretty empty in terms of content; both meaningful and memorable, but there's a few laughs and the soundtrack is good.

The film doesnt really go anywhere. Halfway through your thinking what is the actual plot/point of this film and at the end your left still thinking the same thing. Not particularly funny either. Poor pointless film. The best part is the music used in it. Some good tracks.

3/21/2016: Not a horrible movie, but not a good movie either. It was an ok story, but it wasn't funny at all.

Loser is an underrated Teen comedy that moves along nicely. It has a good soundtrack the main characters are likeable enough. it's not overly original but lightly tackles issues such as student debt and date rape so has aged better than some of it's counterparts. Date rape in a 12 rated film where were the BBFC on that one? Perhaps they nodded off listening to teenage dirtbag.

Got a real unexplained soft spot with this one

***Due to the recent RT changes that have basically ruined my past reviews, I am mostly only giving a rating rather than a full review.***

Amy Heckerling doesn't quite know what kind of audience she is trying to engage. If she's trying to show high school kids the problems and unexpected strife of college life in a metropolis, then she should have shown that world in a more focused way. If she's trying to be funny and quirky for the older subset than her characters should have been better written and less dickish. Besides being clinically underwritten, it's difficult to figure out who is the lead character, or at least the person we're supposed to sympathize with. Throughout the film we follow Paul (Biggs) and it seems that he is our protagonist. We feel for him when his dorm mates are mean spirited, when the girl of his dreams is misguided, and when everything tries to keep him from getting through school, but he lacks character development. He goes through hard times, but there's no resolution to be seen, and he doesn't change at all. Dora (Suvari) on the other hand has a mess of bad things happen to her, and then she changes her opinion about her relationship with her professor (Kinnear), which means she's the only character who evolves throughout the film. It seems that we should be following her, but then interwoven in her tale is that of Paul's, who just seems like some poor schmuck who never wins. Without any proper direction for our characters, and no change in their behaviors or thoughts on the world, there shouldn't really be any reason for this film to exist. It's trying to show the problems of college students, but it doesn't realistically depict them. Paul's three roommates are also pretty distracting, as they're rich, sycophantic rapists, who don't seem to get much comeuppance until the credits. Besides its plot defects it's also drab and very of its time, making this film a tiring slog.

Written and directed by Amy Heckerling (Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985), Look Who's Talking (1989) and Clueless (1995)). This teen romantic comedy shows the stresses of college life, and how students struggle to get by in life while they're trying to get a further education. It was unfairly slagged off upon release, but it's not that bad. Paul Tannek (Jason Biggs) has just got an academic scholarship to study at New York University, he comes from upstate New York, which is very rural, but his father (Dan Aykroyd) wishes him all the luck for his college life. As soon as Paul gets there, he struggles to fit in, and is bullied and teased by his dorm house roommates, who are party animals and don't study at all. Paul leaves, and finds residence in a box room at a veterinary clinic, but he soon finds himself falling for Dora Diamond (Mena Suvari), who goes to the same classes as Paul, but she's currently having a secret affair with their course professor Edward Alcott (Greg Kinnear). The film has a charming honesty about it, but hardly anyone went to see it when it first came out. Pity, as it's a teen film which has stood the test of time, and it's a precursor to what was to come with the likes of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008) and Adventureland (2009). It deserves to be rediscovered.

Jason Biggs é o cara. O herói de toda uma geração.

Loser takes all the qualities of a teen movie (none) and combines them with all the qualities of an underdog romcom (none)
