Duets Reviews
Weirdly compelling even if characters are a very random bunch
Sure it’s flawed, but this movie always gets me! The karaoke is wonderful - Andre Braugher and Paul Giamatti !!! It’s a fairytale, an odyssey, kind of ridiculous but if you allow yourself to indulge in a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief, you will enjoy yourself thoroughly. Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis!!!
I really loved this movie and it was very heart felt with decent singing would definitely recommend
A movie I thought I would hate but over time, I love more with each watch.
Great feel good movie! Good music! The people that gave a bad rating are freaking idiots!
Unfortunately the only memorable part is the music but it is fun enough for a watch.
Duets never truly connects to the audience. Instead, it keeps grasping at any straws that a flawed script could offer.
A charming film which features Huey Lewis getting in a bar brawl... does it get any better than that?
Duets is a film about people. they come in pairs but they are really separate. all these individuals are lost. they don't know who they are,and some of them, never knew.the young man about to become a priest has lost his way.he is trying to edeem himself and find a good and decent world he can live in. the escaped convict needs to be free but cannot escape his sordid life. same with the husband in sales, wasting away his life, invisible to his family, He has forsaken his true self for others, who care little about him and his sacrifice. then there is the singer with no self-esteem,selling herself cheaply with no belief in her worth as a person. the father and daughter are strangers who meet at the funeral of her mother and his wife. He wants nothing to do with her,and cares only about himself. he cheapens himself as a man,and a singer, hustling amateurs in kareoke bars. He rejects his daughter and says, being a father just isn't him. all this drama surrounded by amazing music and singing performances by all the stars, with the only exception being andre braugher. seeing paul giameti in this role, back in 2000,when he is currently playing a ruthless US prosecutor in Billions, shows the depth this man has as an actor. andre Braugher is superb,as always, charasmatic and dazzlingly exceptional,he steals every he appears in,singer or no singer. Anyone who doesn't laugh, cry, celebrate, and anything else you can humanly feel, must be comatose. a young michael Buble also appears as the shape of things to come. this is a morality play, a nightclub act, a lesson in american sociology, a display of virtuosity and depth of character in a film so entertaining it hurts.gwyneth paltrow shows her stuff, Huey Lewis is himself and that's enough,Paul Giametti is a wonder,Maria Bello is a star and scott speedman redeems all of us into believing his narrow-minded 3rd grade teacher is all wrong about everything. we all all made whole by Duets, a story that tells us we are not alone, love is real, and life is worth it all.
Great movie! Saw it 10 times at least. Loved every single scene! I believe i have nothing in common with the people who gave negative reviews and I'm happy not to be one of them :)!
Sadly even with catchy songs sung legitimately by the actors, good camerawork and solid acting, the entire execution is just a hodgepodge of ideas that don't coalesce as easy as it should have. The individual story lines don't match in tone, which doesn't make the film understandable in its message and the whole concept of karaoke isn't focused on like the premise promotes. It had potential but wasn't utilized properly. For my full review of Duets (2000), check it out on this IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134630/reviews-130
I found this movie to be very enjoyable. The musical numbers by Paul Giamatti, Huey Louis and Andre Braugher were really cool. I don't get all the bad ratings it got. Not the greatest movie of all time, but definitely a watchable one about different lives crossing paths.
I loved the characters and loved the movie. Especially that everyone except Andre Braugher did their own singing. Can't figure for the life of me why the critics trashed this movie.
A meandering script but entertaining enough. For a movie called Duets there wasn't much duetting, though. Andre Braugher singing added half a star to the rating.
Very entertaining movie--which I watched primarily because of Paul Giamatti, who is always worth watching, and I am glad I did, because I really enjoyed it. Good cast and fun singing.
Commie movie, with all its Liberal preaching, I don't feel guilty for being above middle class, but know Hollywood stars hates us because we are not elite. Please STOP using you platform to tell me you don't like America! How the hell do you think you stay wealthy, you who cannot act and force your ideas down the throats of the poor and middle class! Make a move for once everybody can enjoy without PREACHIN!
