Summer Storm Reviews
I don't know why the critics didn't like this movie. I found it to be a realistic portrayal of adolescent struggles with sexual identity. It was well-acted and directed. Ignore the critics and check this one out. 7/10
This film is so real and is the number one in the coming of age genre for me. The amount of complexity achieved through genuine interaction in very little time makes it very relatable for young queer people, who often find themselves in a similar web of unspoken loyalties, stereotypes and the threat of change destroying everything they hold on to for support. The shots, the music, the acting -this film has played my heart strings for decades and continues to do so. Nothing about this is rotten and it's a detriment to the rottentomatoes that it is not in the 200 best LGBTQ+ movies of all time.
Set in Germany the main character is a team member at a rowing team. At a training camp he finds himself.
Slightly better than a long episode of Degrassi, this film is a more daring version of the "I'm in love with my best friend" love stories.
I really enjoyed this movie. It is a great coming-of-age/self movie. It is billed as a drama, but has some great comedic moments - which left me feeling very strange, I know at parts I should have been sad, but I was still laughing from previous parts, so I felt kinda odd at parts, knowing I should feel something other than what I was feeling. All in all, it was a great movie, the subtitles were not annoying, for those who hate subtitles.
Funny, well filmed and a good laugh. Could off thought of a few more creative ways to gain laughter though.
Ah another well done Gay/Romance film. Good performance and well written Summer Storm isn't your average Gay film.
Some average to good acting in this film. Also had some nice cinemagraphical shots in there to break up the drama. The movie did go a little into the themes of sexual orientation and how they are perceived amongst the youth, however this, along with the ending, could've been longer. Overall, an average film that I would recommend if you would like to watch something different and not cliche.
Sincere but slightly heavy-handed coming-out drama invests in intelligent, fully developed, articulate teenage characters.
An observant and sensitively played drama about adolescent sexuality, unrequited love and heartbreak. Ultimately has few original aspects, but it is an intelligently wrought drama that makes it a respectable entry in the genre. reuzpaintner displays a natural gift with actors and a clarity in storytelling that result in a fresh take on what otherwise might have been a familiar coming-of-age story. This tender and funny feature benefits from an appealing cast--in particular Stadlober, who brings depth and honesty to what could have been a formulaic coming-out chronicle. Routine in some aspects, but compensates via psychologically sharp writing and performances. VERDICT: "Full Price" - My second highest rating (Positive to Mixed reaction). This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theater to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent.
