An alcoholic mob hit man, Frank Falenczyk (Ben Kingsley), is forced into rehab by his boss (Philip Baker Hall). To clean up he gets a sponsor (Luke Wilson) who helps him enroll in a 12 step program. Frank eventually takes a job in a mortuary and begins a new life, falling in love with his attractive co-worker Laurel (Téa Leoni). Frank's idyllic new life is threatened when old associates with bad attitudes and worse intentions start looking for him.

For a relatively low budget film, made in Winnipeg, it worked well. The acting comes out on the right tone. The events seems believable. Téa and Ben have a romance that appears quite possible. The whole was hardly predictable, peaking the interest throughout. I liked the pace of the film, not too fast, not too slow, giving us the time to ponder where the thing is going and surprising us most of the times. The dvd extra explained how they made it in Winnipeg in may and were able to digitally recreate winter and the US locations incredibly well. I was stunned when the credits mentioned Winnipeg and thought they had shot only the winter scenes there. Well, it was not event winter in Canada in may. Very good effort, worthy of our appreciation.

Weak movie, due to bad script and poor casting choices. Tea Leonie is just a bit too beautiful and tall to fit with the desperate, killer-drunk Ben Kingsley. The Humor is all too much in the been-there-done-that category: it's a bit like Sopranos meet AA-Meetings, a Variation of Tony talking to his shrink. Just not funny, poor taste, silly, strange. How is it funny if a killer walks backwards the wrong way? How is it funny that he works with dead People? How is it funny that not one member of his gangster family couldn't even hold a gun upright? It just doesn't make any sense. I don't agree with the critics at all: 2 stars, on a good day.
