20,000 Days on Earth Reviews

Advice: If you don't know who this guy is, like me, don't watch.

Perhaps i am wrong, but i think the magic of this movie (and there IS magic) lies in the fact that it shows us the more personal and existential perspective of an extraordinary life, something most of us will never have, and takes us along in Nick Cave's process of coming to terms with what he did with it, and in the process guiding us through the creative process of how he deals with not just music but life itself.

I'm not a fan of Nick Cave's borderline pretentious song-writing and rather monotonous music: he's the bastard love-child of Mick Jagger and Tom Waits. But within this overlong day-in-the-life tone poem there are interesting flashes of a less pompous philosopher wrestling with subjects as various as English weather, family and performance. Brief cameos from Ray Winstone, Warren Ellis and Kylie Minogue.

A unique take at a new way to make a documentary.

Que sujeto tan agradable es el Señor Cave.

It looks and sounds great. It's edited and directed in a wonderfully artistic way. It's interesting throughout, quirky and emotionally resonant. Worth watching and not only for Cave enthusiasts.

sooooo self-indulgent, and not in that interesting of a way either. I wanted to like it so bad. It went into some interesting points about the creative process, but watching Nick Cave direct scenes with Nick Cave in therapy talking about his mundane childhood was just too much.

I didn't really realise who Nick Cave was until the very end of the film. The whole thing was grand and heroic. I don't know how real (1%) the image of this guy was, or whether I like him, or whether I want to know about him. But I felt it was important that we didn't see him perform until the very end of the film. Where are the women in his life, why are they literally in the back seat? I like that it doesn't really pretend to be a documentary, at least that much was honest.

20,000 Days on Earth ist keine Biographie, dafür Work-In-Progress.

Outstanding documentary-type thing, with remarkable insight and access to Nick Cave's personal archives. Music ain't too bad either!

I am a big fan of Nick Cave and found this documentary fascinating. It is pretentious at times, but Cave is candid, it's well shot, and it's quite interesting. A must for Nick Cave fans, and i think music fans will enjoy it.

If you like Nick Cave, you will love this. If you love documentary making, you will love the innovative and creative style used in this docu-drama. Fascinating insight into a writer's mind.

I really don't know where best to start with this film. It's a documentary but not, a concert film but not, an art house film of sorts but not. I could go on for a bit more but it's a really fascinating and extremely gorgeous film to look at. Seriously, it's really cool to look at and it's not like you're looking at anything overly special. Our premise here is a staged day in the life of singer Nick Cave. You really do not to know anything about him or his music to appreciate this. You follow him throughout his day as he crafts a song, has odd flashback chats with various people, and you end with a performance. It really is a fascinating look into his process and I think if you aren't a fan when you start you will definitely want to check him out when you've finished. There's a feel for this film that I can't quite put my finger on but it sits right in your chest until the final scene. It also probably helps that his music and his voice make very good late night viewing/listening. As I said, it's a gorgeous film to look at as well as listen to. He does get a bit self indulgent at points but there's enought tongue in cheek here to take the sting out of most of that. Whether you're a fan of his or not and you want to see a music documentary done much more cinematically I highly, highly recommend this. Also go check out one of his albums if you haven't before.

The prince of darkness Nick Cave is not everyone's cup of tea. I for one had strong reservations about this film going into watching it but unlike most music docs this really does hit the spot. The film concentrates on a day in the life of Cave as he travels around his adopted city of Brighton focusing on his meeting with work colleagues interspersed with clips of his band the Bad Seeds recording a new album. The film is part real part fiction and its good that the film manages to pull this off as the danger would have been a massive self indulgence.. During the course of the film we also get cameos from Kylie Minogue and Ray Winstone who discuss music and mortality with Cave and we also see Cave admit his fallings as we trawl through his personal archive. if you haven't sampled the works of Nick Cave then this film could act as a fine primer for one of music's true originals.

Review: I really liked the documentary about the weird and wonderful mind behind Nick Cave's work which began in 1973, when I was born, and he is still coming out with music today. He became a chart topping artist when he made the song with Kylie Minogue called Where The Wild Roses Grow but he has mostly stayed underground with a selective audience. The Australian born 57 year old has a very a different look in life, which you will see in this documentary and his music comes from a place which is unique and very complex. This documentary is extremely well put together and it shows different sides of his life, even though it's only based on one day. I must admit, I had only heard a couple of songs from this artist before I watched this documentary but now that I have seen it, I am intrigued about his earlier work. The epic ending song, which I can't help rewinding, is really impressive because of the violins and kids singing. It made me laugh when he was sitting with his young kids, eating a pizza and watching Scarface, which is politically incorrect for this day and age but that just shows that Nick Cave really isn't bothered with those type of things. I wish that more artist would come out with documentaries like this because it will make them seem more human and you'll be able to see the process behind there writing and musical methods. There is a part in the documentary were he goes through his personal pictures which would also be great to see from other artists at different periods of there life. Personally, I watched this movie on 온라인카지노추천 and then I rented it the next day because I couldn't get the ending song out of my mind so I'm obviously impressed with this film. You don't have to be a Nick Cave fan to enjoy this documentary because of the different elements that it covers so I will highly recommend it to people who want to see a day in a life of an artist . Enjoyable. Round-Up: I was shocked to see Ray Winstone in this movie. I couldn't really see why he was in this film and it was a bit strange when he was asking Nick Cave some questions and he wasn't answering them but the natural conversation in the car seemed very realistic. I was also surprised to see Kylie Minogue in the film and the conversation between the two of them in the car was a great insight into a period in his life when there collaboration exploded on the music scene. The interview with the psychologist, also gives you an insight into his strange upbringing and the relationship with his father which shows a more personal side to Nick Cave. I do find his lyrics a bit weird and very Jim Morrison like but he is an unique artist who doesn't get the recognition that he deserves because he doesn't follow trends and he stays true to his music. Budget: N/A Worldwide Gross: $2million I recommend this movie to people who are into their biopics about a day in the life of Nick Cave. 7/10
